[Help] uxtheme.dll is a pain in the @$$!

I'm not at my home computer, so I cannot give much information that might be needed. I will be home around 3 or 4, so I will post necessary information there.

I am running Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition w/ SP2.

I am not able to run third-party themes, even after patching my uxtheme.dll file.

If you're having so many problems, why not use WindowBlinds?

#332461

I just tried a Neowin Patcher and I got what you see in the attatchment. Any ideas? I don't have a clue what it means. I have been haveing the same problems as the original poster.

@aquaman, mabie cause windowblinds cost money he would rather not spend.

Anyhow are you shure you patched it corectly? Try an automated patcher, I think neowin has one. Cause I know as a fact if you patch it you will be able to use thirs party themes....

#332467

Wait.. let me see if i get this..

You are posting to let us know you will post about a problem you are having?

Without givng us any details?

That's... nice :slant:

Remove your Windows XP setup files from your hard drive. WFP will overwrite the patched DLL from the source if you don't.

Try using Flyakite's Universal UXTheme Patcher. It's smaller :P.

Tell me if you're unable to find it...I believe if you search for threads made by flyakite, and click the one [preview] thread, you'll find it.

There's a newer version out too (released on Neowin--if you have an account there you can search), but I can't find it online :(.

I have tried the neowin patcher, but it hasn't worked. :(

OK, here are some details:

I am currently using Media Center Royale as my theme, but I am on XP Home.

When I try to use Windows Classic style, I get this error:

"The visual styles could not be loaded because the file failed to load.

Details:"

That's it. It doesn't even list details... I am afraid that I might have to reinstall to get this working.... but I don't want to do that.

#332515

I know why it shows the first error, it's because you have a windows install folder (i386) in c:

Change its name, install uxtheme and change its name back to i386

If that does not work, copy i386 folder to a cd or dvd, delete it from C: , install uxtheme and restore the folder again.

You could simply delete the folder, but it would show an "insert windows xp disc" message every time you install new drivers

I hope that was useful, tell if it worked to you

i am sending you a copy of the patch to which NC kindly redirected me. it worked out splendidly for me, after i have uninstalled all my previous patches, though of course i cannot guarantee it will work for you and i decline all responsability in case you're gonna mess it up. i hope it is allowed to send it to you so it's attached. NC was a great and kind help for me and since yesterday i enjoy plentitude of styles that are not eating any of my resources.

Notice who they're thanking, flyakite.

Yeah. Yeah, that's what I thought :P.

You never released it (v2.0 of the patcher) in a thread of its own, though--would you mind making a new thread, and just uploading it there, since it's apparently small enough to be counted as an attachment? That way, I wouldn't have to keep bugging you for a link to give other people, since I'm too lazy to upload my own copy :P.

Thanks again for a cool program though, and I was glad to be of service, dunce. ;)

v2.0? Did you travel into the future or something? I'd like to get my hands on that baby :P.

It's v1.2, but yes I'll make up a seperate thread for it here in a sec.

#333232

flyakite and NC, once again many thanks. it seems i didn't thank flyakite for his patch, i thank you!!!! and thanks again, NC, for letting me know of it! aqua community here is amazing! so good to be among you, guys.

Yeah, it's a beta version. Sorry I can't share it with you--the developer said not to give it to anyone.

:P

A small typo on my part, hehe.

Nothing seems to work for me.

I tried using ALL of Neowin's pacth, from the oldest to the recent 4.0 version.

I also tried the Universal patcher that was posted here.

I also tried the manual version, using the replacer.

None seem to work. It thus, though, enable me to see ONE skin, eternal graphite. But akwardly, under the appearance tab, it only appears on window XP style, and eternal graphite is a color scheme. I have other skins there, Eternal Aqua, for example, and is not shown.

I wonder whats wrong with me, or whats wrong with it. Help anyone?

I *DO* use windowblinds, but... there are several great skins that aren't ported to WB. :(

That is exactly why. If you have WindowBlinds installed, you will no longer see normal Visual Styles in the Appearance tab.

#333810

actually no. all you have to do is hold ctrl when clicking properties (on desktop) and it will show up as the "original" appearance panel.

#333827

Open the VS using Stardock's Skinstudio. It will convert it to a "universal skin format" i.e. a format that Windowblinds can use. Most of the time the conversion is great but some VSs do not convert well.

#336718

I have WB installed and I use the uxtheme.dll patch cause the skinstudio conversion was messing up all the good visual styles. I just disable wb from running on startup when I want to use a VS. It has worked for me so far.
