[Req] A simple image manipulation application

Hi, I sure am asking a lot of questions lately!

I'm looking for a really simple application that will allow me to combine various images (or parts of images), add some text, and maybe some freehand drawing etc. I'll mainly be using it for producing figures, so there's no need for advanced features. I tried GIMP, but it wasn't quite what I was looking for. I'm sure it's designed to be simple and user-friendly, I just found it annoying.

If you know of any, please let me know.
