I have been running all 3 docks the past few days and enjoy all of them and im hoping once the updated of mobydock could compare to objectdock but right now im running objectdock mostley but im having problems with shortpopup. i have one created all ready for my game shorcuts folder but when i go to create one for my start menu it only shows the game shortcuts so i go back and change it again and it works but my games menu goes to the start menu any help thank you.
Object Dock and Shortpopup
Im not quite sure of your problem but i will explain how i do it and it works fine for me. I copy shortpopup.exe to the directory i want to display, then i copy and paste a shortcut in the same directory. In this shortcut i put my command line arguments (eg ...."C:\Files\Settings\Folders\Start Menu\Programs\ShortPopUp.exe" -display 4 XP -transparent 0 -dieonmouseout -noshowhidden -menuxalignment left -menuyalignment top -appearwhererun -iconsforfolders... in the target box) Then i drag the new shortcut to objectdock and it displays great. Just make sure you have both the exe file and shortcut copied into the directories you want displayed..ie multiple copies of shortpopup.exe..
I have 2 differant copys running in 2 differant folders and it still gives me the problem.
Do you drag the exe file or the shortcut to the dock?...
This is what i got to folders a game shortcut folder and my start menu folder i have both a shortcut and the program in the folder but when i make a shortcut it put .lnk after the .exe. with that down in the dock when i set up the games folder when i click on it it works but when i click on the start menu it pops up the games folder and not the start menu and visa versa.
Could you post a pic of properties of both shortcuts..please..are you creating the shortcuts once you copied the exe file to the directory. As shortpopup looks at the start in box to browse the directory...
Hi all,
I'm having the same problem also.
It looks as if ObjectDock uses the "current directory" as the "working direcory" for running *.exe's.
This is a problem. Perhaps if the Jeff put in a prompt for the "working directory" for shortcuts that would fix it.
Jeff if you are reading this, please take note.

Having no working directory in objectdock is overcome by creating a shortcut ie look in. When you run the shortcuts in explorer do they show the right menus, and when you drag them both to objectdock what do they display games or startmenu first.
in windows they run just fine opening what they are in but when i drag them to the dock. lets say i drag the start menu first to the dock then the games one only the games comes up but when i configer the start menu to change it works fine but the games folder goes there to now and visa versa. the start in directory in Y'z bar fixes it but in moby dock and object dock it dosent have it and it malfuctions.
I have also tried dynumenu i think it called and it opens a window i would like it to bring up a menu and without running lifestep i dont know how to do it.
Try this, as i do this also, rename the shortcuts, ie shortpopup.exe.lnk to games.lnk before dragging them to objectdock.
In program properties i cant find the .lnk extinsion all i find is the target, start in, and the name that you can change but when i go to change it it only shows the .exe extinsion it dosent show the .lnk but when i drop it on the dock it shows the .lnk extinsion i have tried changing the names the location the extinsion but they eithier bounce and do nothing or open one or the other. Oh i forgot to say im running Windows XP pro SP1
Disable hide extensions for known file types in the view tab of folder options to see *.lnk ext in explorer, then right click and rename to games.lnk etc..
I did turn that off and i still cant get to them i tried though the command but when i went to run rename it dosent work
I used ShortPopUp in Windows 2000 SP3 and works flawlessly, but the same configuration does not hold true for XP.
You can drag shortcut and change arguments all you want, it just won't work in XP, possibly due to directory structure.
Oh well, wait till ObjectDock support it natively.
Cheers...
I use ShortPop up in WindowsXP. No problem here. Nothing special to configure just the same instructions.
ShortPopUp only works for me in XP, but not properly. I am having same problem trying with multiple folders. If I drag the executable, it would list the directory it currently resides in, if I drag the shortcut with proper arguments and targets for particular folder, it won't do anything once click on the dock. I only have shortpopup.exe in the main directory with shortcuts for the likes...Office, Utilities etc...Here's is what weird, if I click on the shortcuts within windows explorer, it works, but once you drag the shorcuts to the dock and click on it, nothing happens.

Actually I got this to work (which scares me in a way)...
If you use the OD config to 'create a shortcut' and link it back to the original executable for Shortpopup
Place your command line flags in the Arguments field
Its oddly working rather nicely for me right now, when I get it configured the way I want it I'll screen shot it ![]()
p.s. OK I was wrong - this ONLY worked the way it was supposed to until I recycled OD...
after that I'm back to get the nice shortcut menu for the OD directory itself *grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr*
Shortpopup works fine in XP. Copy shortpopup.exe to the folder you wish displayed, create a shortcut to shortpopup.exe in the same folder and drag the shortcut to the dock. The shortcut to shortpopup.exe has the start in box pointing to the directory so it should display the contents of the directory instead of the contents of the objectdock folder if you had just dragged shortpopup.exe to the dock.
( Though some people have had problems running shortcuts dragged to the dock, PS on Y's dock, the dock item has a lookin box in its properties to point to the directory, so no shortcut is needed, just drag the exe file to the dock and enter the folder in the lookin box of the dock item properties..)

I'm running it fine under XP (when I run it out of the task bar, runs beautifully!).
Here is how I have it setup though to run thru Object Dock.
A shorcut of ShortPopUp.exe exists in D:/Shortcuts
Properties on the .lnk for ShortPopUp.exe are as follows
Target: D:\ShortPopUp.exe -display 3 xp flat
Start in: D:\Shortcuts
Shortcyt Key: None
Run : Normal Window
Comment: N/A
Now when I drag the Shortcut to the dock and click on it one of two things occurs:
I crash Explorer.exe
OR
the icon bounces and nothing happens
So I tried the following:
Went into OD config and created a shortcut there
Configured the shortcut to point to executable of ShortPopUp.exe located in D:\Shortcuts
THIS works!!! Even down to providing the command line flags in the arguments area
Problem with this:
Upon relaunching Object Desktop ShortPopUp again creates a pop
up menu of the items located in C:\Program Files\Object Dock
To create a shortcut and link it to the .lin (shortcut of ShortPopup.exe in D:\Shortcuts) produces the same results as dragging the link directly into the dock.
Going to completely blow ones mind...BUT it works.
I've been having the same issue as many of you have in getting ShortPopUp to work correctly in Object Dock
Here is how I got around that problem (yes its a mess but IT WORKS)
From where you want it to launch (for me its D:\Shortcuts) I put the executable AND create a shortcut in there
Set your shortcut up the way you want it to launch - for me I gave it a -display 3 xp flat -dieonmouseout option
Drag the actual executable (from whereeve you have it) for me its D:\Shortcuts in Object Desktop to make a shortcut on your OD dock...
Now here's the wierd part. In the right click properties of the Object Dock shortcut give it the following for arguments
-shiftrun D:\Shortcuts\ShortPopUp.exe.lnk -dieonmouseout (or where ever your lnk is you've added the nice options onto)
When you execute the Object Dock shortcut, it then execute the link...
loopie I know...but a work around none the less until the functionality gets build in to it
My example:
Take note to the icon in the dock, that is a shortcut back to the executable with the -shiftrun option applied!
Goodluck
Its a little funkey to get it to work but it works hooraa thank you so much trillum.
Good one, novel way for those who cant get it to work my way when the shortcut just bounces, well done. Its strange, for me dragging shortcuts to objectdock work, not bounce but not for everyone, good solutions for any other shortcuts needed on objectdock for any reason....
I haven't been able to get any shortcuts to work in Object Dock from off of my desktop (or anywhere else). I either am building my own "New Shortcut" for the system commands I want to utilize or using an icon straight to the original. One thing I DID find with ShortPopUp. If you are using system created shortcuts onto your dekstop that you drug into a folder they are a different size then going right click -> Create Shortcut. The ones that Windows creates are 3k jobies and not the 1k that I am used to seeing as shortcuts. This caused a slight issue in my ShotPopUp in that any shortcut that was 3k in size caused a navigation arrow beside it (like it was a directory) which lef into a 'relaunching' of the Shortcut window... not quite sure why this occurred, but was able to fix it by just recreating my application shortcuts (in the 1k size) and replacing my 3k ones that were 'Windows created' at installation.
Anyone else run into this? I'd be curious to find out why this is happening
