[help] good adress book software for windows

Hi everybody,

what I am looking for is a good Adress Book Software. I've used Outlook 2003 Pro, Windows Adress Book and Thunderbird/Sunbird, but those adress books all appear to be either have very weird ways of sorting/finding things(Windows native adress book), load a huge program (Outlook) or they just don't provide enough fields (*bird).

Actually I am looking for something that works like itunes just for adresses :confused: Yeah so if anyone knows a good application it would be nice.

I am aware of Google by the way, but I wasn't going to test another fifteenhundred apps just to find out that the one half is crap and the other halfs probably transfers all adresses directly to the big bad Spyware-People ;-)

Anyway I tried the Apps mentioned in that thread, I want to be nice and share the expierience:

Jib's Address Book

Jibs Adress Book is still a beta, the third one to be exact and it comes with a long list of already known bugs and the message that it isn't developed anymore (since July 2004).

It has a lot of nice ideas, but for example lags simple features like maximizing the window. Also it very much tries to look like the Apple Version of it, so thats very confusing, in case you want to close it.

The import-filter is very nice, but buggy and for some odd reason it marks all importet contacts as your personal card. Some navigation elements appear to be missing. The search function is working, but only shows the first hit.

So yeah, its too bad it isn't developed anymore and not OpenSource, there are a lot of good thoughts like the possiblity to add videoclips and the little image target chooser and the map button and so on...

Roots - Savanna Studios Address Book

I am sad to say that this Address Book is even further behind Jib's. Even though it is also a look alike of the Apple Adress Book too, it misses a Preferences-Dialog as well as a Readme-File or a hint who made it ( on the realduckie it says beric, but the homepage is go :/ ). Also I wasn't able to add a picture my card not to mention that it took me a while to find out that the "edit" button was also the "save" button..well stupid me, but this isn't really usable i believe

It was mentioned in the other thread too. Well the AdressBook is kinda cool, could use a different layout, but oh well... The thing is that I don't want to load a whole mail program to go with it. I just want an address book app.

uhm, yeah, what I was trying to say is that I think its annoying that the app just ignores the over all skin making it hard to use. I like the style off the app in general, but whenever I tried to "close" it there was just no button to do so. So its like a missunderstanding? Its the same thing on the "Savanna Adress Book" where you extend the window to screen size. If I am using an apple skin I always use one that has the three window buttons on the top right (like itunes) not one that moves it, because that annoys me.

I wonder if anyone knows Jib and if I could ask to have the development continued.

Edit: oh I just saw on the screenshot that he is an aqua-soft-developer..cool..small world.

Contact 1.5.2 - Isaac Software

This Address Book gains the most points compared to the other apps, because it is still in active development 1.5.3 is to be expected by the end of the year and it is suppossed to have missing as well as additional features.

Missing there is a good import filter, the part of Jibs software that was working very well, but I will write myself a php-script for converting. Compared to the other it basically does everything I wanted. Its easy to use, a standalone app and it has a smart search function, kinda like gmail.

Adding custom fields is suppossed to be comming as well as language packs.

So yeah the only thing is that there is not even talk about the app being able to be skinned so I guess no aqua look in the future :slant:

I'm glad you found the link useful Now I only wish I could find a script or an app that could be linked to a shortcut/remote button that turns off the monitor.. or instantly puts the monitor to sleep.
