Powerbook 15" 500mhz - Wont boot up

Hey,

It seems my tibook will no longer boot up. Both batteries I have work, tested in my friends pb, and i tried usiong my PB with the A/C adapter but no luck. Tried everything but nothing seems to work with it. Could this be a bad PRAM battery?

Does it load in any way, shape, or form? Do you get a command prompt screen? An Apple screen?

#330152

nope, nothing

#330168

Any sounds? HD spin up, fans maybe?

#330175

If you get spinup and everything, it could be a monitor problem, in which case, try pluging in a second monitor, turning on the computer, and quickly closing your powerbook lid. This will enable clamshell mode and, if it's your monitor, you'll know since the other one will work.

If not, good luck! It could be a number of things... power supply, HD, failed connection somewhere...

Any new ram added lately?

#330360

nope, i have so many sticks tho, i even used some from this pismo, nothing! Batteries are fine, but when i try them on the PBG4 nothing turns on, dead and silent. Hoping this could just be PMU, fearing it could be logic board

#330392

I'm gunna part it out, i should make around ~$750 on ebay

#330617

Good luck on that. Please tell me if I can peronally purchase the monitor assembly. Whatever you do, don't cut the green cable. :D

Well, update. I fixed it all! w00t. The beast is now assembled and powers on, BUT, i cant boot from the CD, or Use the option key, or Apple-S, or any command. Just the stupid Question mark folder!! What should i do? New HD?

#334866

Hmmmm..... bad IDE controller? (in which case, external USB IDE controller might work but not sure).

#334876

bad IDE for the superdrive, or the HDD?

#334877

IDE is on the motherboard.... it is the middleman between the HD, the processor, and all external goodies (keyboard, superdrive, etc).

#334888

Ohh i see. I checked the orange-colored cable, seems to be intact.

#334927

It's a chip on the motherboard if I remember correctly.... I don't remember the procedure for fixing it though.

It could easily be something else... remember that! If you're desperate, try pluging in a firewire drive with OS X on it. It should work if your HD is down.

k thanks :)

#334931

update, tried every key command. Its like my keyboard is dead. no key command has worked. keeps bringing me to question mark folder

#334933

aha! the keyboard has no power! numlock and caps lock both wont light up....now i gotta get a new keyboard...ugh

#334937

why don't you ebay it and buy a new one?

#334943

well, if its the keyboard thats shot i will. but what if its the logic board not getting a connection to the keyboard. i guess i wont know unless someone really gives me a firm answer to that question

#334949

does an external USB keyobard do the trick? You should be able to boot the laptop and use the external to hold down C or hit option, etc. Why it wouldn't automatically recognize the CD has me worried.

#334979

external usb keyboard does the trick, but does that mean that the keyboard on the PB itself is shot, or the driver for it on the board is?
