I'm quite pleased with the icons besides the "lines", they're not aligned with the cursor... but it looks the best this way.

Yes, what you might want to do is put the axis of the needle in the middle, or... you could also make the circle where the lines are more... ovalish, and not so... perfectly circle... think of a parenthesis... ( I guess..
