Its annoying isn't it... all the non-US countries get ripped off even more by Apple 
I checked the Canadian website yesterday and I checked it today - there was a decrease in price of $600. AMAZING! :woot:
It's called mass consumption. If you buy wholesale quantities you end up paying less because of volume. It's easier to sell 10,000 computers in the U.S. than in Spain, the U.K., or Italy . Don't forget that retailers have a certain date to pay for those computers they don't get them free. If they don't sell then they will have a harder time to buy too. Maybe the price in Asia might be cheaper because of lower production cost, maybe or maybe not.

I'm also spanish, when I bought my iMac four months ago, I paid the same price as if I had bought it at USA, maybe there's a delay of time until the prices get similar...

there are hardly any here in the UK either.. probably because they charge more in a poorer country.. nice one apple

the Powerbook in Spain are 16% more expensive. I suppose it's IVA tribute... >.<
Cost has many factors why they are more expensive at one place than another:
1. Local taxes
2. import taxes
3. distribution fees = transportation/delivery to stores
4. local operational fees (cost to maintain local Apple stores if any)
5. cost of actually shipping based on number of units bought locally by 3rd party retailers (larger volume Apple ships to that area the more closely it will reflect the larger market of consumption)
6. what local stores can profit given the competition and the average prices for that product.
Wonder why vegetables rot at point of production and carry a high price at the local store ?
Because eventhough when there is an oversupply the cost of getting it to the customer is higher than the price of the product or it affects the price substantially, so it is better to let it rot and charge higher for a lower amount of that product that actually gets to the customer.
Take a look at gasoline/petrol prices in the U.S., we get some of the lowest prices in the world because we import in huge quantities making it worthwhile for foreign exporters. However local refineries that take that petroleum and process attach whatever price they can charge and get away with. On top of that 25-35% of the cost of gasoline to the consumer is attributed to local State/Provincial taxes and Federal taxes.
So it may not be Apple that is ripping people off but the distributors and the whole economic infrastructure within that country.
