Odd hum problem solved oddly (iMac G5)

Well I posted a thread below some time ago to find otu what was causing a "hum" in the line-in input when I had software utilizing it running.

The brightness!!

I just started playing my guitar 20 minutes ago and noticed there was no hum. I am not sitting in my usual chair, so when I got an IM I noticed my screen was lighter than usual from my perspective. Well, I hit F14 to turn the brightness down, and low and behold my computer starts buzzing. I turn it once notch back to full, and it stops buzzing.

How weird is that? I have no idea how the brightness could pissibly mess with the audio in signal, but I guess it does. Each notch makes a different sounding hum, all the same volume, except for when it's full there is no hum at all.

the hum is from the monitor not the jack.

If you record and turn off your monitor (which is what your supposed to do) you wont hear anything but the sweet sweet sounds of rocknroll :)

It's an iMac.. pretty hard to turn off just the monitor. ;)

But I do know what you mean with regards to older CRT's causing noise when recording.
