can i afford to pass this up?

the student store has a special running:

20" imac g5 2.0mhz

512mb, 250gb, dvd+r dl/dvd±rw/cdrw superdrive

ati radeo 9600 128mb

bluetooth, airport, blah, blah...

new in box, while supplies last: $1099.

my only hesitations are 1) just last week, i paid of my credit cards. 2) the bull**** going on with flyakite. i hate to give my money to apple right now.

sounds like a ridiculous deal to me - if you want a Mac (and aren't COMPLETELY digusted with Apple at the moment), go for it.

EDIT: wait, wait. Is that a 9600, or an X600? There's a big difference there - the 9600 (if you care about graphics performance (which you should =) ) ) is not nearly as powerful as the X600. So if it's a 9600....I would think twice (not that it's a bad buy, but it isn't nearly as good a deal as I thought)

EDIT2: Perhaps this wasn't clear enough. I still think it is a good deal. When I say "think twice", I don't mean (I didn't say this in the first place either :slant: ) that you should not get it. I simply meant that you should think twice. Which I guess you're already doing, so maybe I'm wasting keystrokes. But people are flaming me about this. =P

Why do people even bring up the damn video card, you're not gonna be able to run games on this sucker even if you had a decent card, you know the native res is 1680x1050. You couldn't even play damn chess full screen and expect it to be smooth.

So, shmengie, whether or not you care about the video card, you at least know about it. If this isn't a given, then let me state clearly that my advice is offered only as advice, and not as a claim to ultimate truth. I did not mean to dictate in any way how you would be using the machine, only to point out how (hypothetically) it could and could not be used.

And for those of you who still can't imagine why I brought it up, you may just assume that I work for ATI and desperately want him to think that it's more important than it really is. :slant:
