[help] site design

at the moment my site is using a template off http://www.oswd.org/

I'm making my own from a blank canvas and wanted opions and help on it.

as my html and css is praticly null.

anyway, i also wanted to know the best way to change css files without to much trouble.

I need help on colour and such, as i have no design skills or taste.

the actually layout isn't going to change, i like it like that.. but help with the css would be nice as i really don't know what i'm doing.

also ignore the ad's at the bottom if you see them, there not part of the design..

Best way to change CSS files is in Notepad, or a basic text editor.
