Aol Instant Messenger Problem

I found what I consider to be an annoying bug in RKlauncher 0.4. When using AOL IM, if you forget to minimize any open IM window, the icon within RKlauncher does not blink or flash when an incoming message arrives. So, someone could be writing to you while you're busy surfing the net, but you'd never know cause you forgot to minimize the window. Something should flash on the menu bar no matter what.

Also, if the Windows taskbar is minimized, is there any way to keep JUST the "Start" menu button up on the screen. I like having RKlauncher on the bottom of the screen, but it looks silly with the taskbar showing. I use the "Start" button quite a bit, and it's a nuisance to have to unhide the taskbar every time I want to use it.

1. since this is what you consider an RK Launcher 0.4 "bug", it should be in the bug report thread. or perhaps in the suggestion thread, since you think a blinking AIM window preview should be implimented.

2. i do not beleive this is a bug. the minimize feature is designed to show you a preview of your window in the dock, and it does not differentiate between programs other than showing the default icon for the program alongside the preview image. therefore, you probably cannot have such a thing as a blinking AIM preview image in the dock.

3. the AIM taskbar button flash is designed to be used with the Windows taskbar. RK Launcher is not literally a taskbar replacement, however it can be used as an alternative taskbar. so if you need to have that functionality, you probably need to use the Windows taskbar.

4. there are several utilities that you can use as a program menu replacement, if you like to use the start menu. i cant think of any at the moment, but they are out there. i beleive some are even on this website. however i don't beleive you will find one that duplicates the start menu exactly, so if you want to use that, you'll have to keep the taskbar.

another alternative can be used if you have a standard keyboard. if your taskbar is hidden, you can press the Window key (on the left between Ctrl and Alt), and that will automatically unhide your taksbar and open your start menu. one the mouse is away from there after a second, it will hide again.

4. A start menu replacement, that just displays the original start menu is the docklet "yzStartmenu". Somewhat buggy is the classic start menu ((the original start menu flashes when you press the docklet) but the XP start menu works fine.
