[question] ATI firmware

I'm new to Mac so i need your help

I found new ATI firmware at versiontracker and thinking about is it need to install or not...

When i was on PC - i install every new video drivers... But here...

I'm on PowerBook 15" ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 64 Mb

Keep in mind that firmware & drivers are two separate things.

Firmware is the software that exists on the videocard itself.

Chances are you never had a need to update videocard firmware on PC.

You only really need to update firmware if it corrects bugs which you are currently experiencing.

...or if it promises much better performance/features over the previous firmware revision.

Finally, make sure the firmware is intended for use with your specific videocard.

Upgrading with the wrong firmware can leave you stuck at a deadend.

It's always good to upgrade to the latest drivers from ATI and NVIDIA, you'll notice more features and faster frame rate. Can't go wrong with that can you?

Yes it can go very wrong. Apple updates drivers with each revision of OSX and it's absulutley needless to update them on your own.
