Appleinsider article on the demise of the eMac. Maybe they're trying to push us onto Mac Minis?
On an unrelated note, I am now desperately in need of an iMac G5. I can't survive without one.

Besides, eMacs were some of the worst computers ever, so they won't be missed...
the computer looked horrible, was horrible, and frankly crts with black borders are a bit like an ipod nano
anyways, you could buy a mac mini and then get a 17" LCD for the same and it would pwnz the emac.
eMacs where better than Mac Minis - If you get a 1.42GHz mini and a screen, etc, make the specs match the eMac, the eMac costs less.
Bad move, Apple. ![]()
the new thing today is "space saving" if you haven't already noticed. a bulky mofo such as the emac, or tiny box with and LCD screen? price wise. 994 dough-emac, mac mini(same specs, -20gigs, 32ddr video)+17inch lcd=1000(800+200). 5 dollars more. i'll stick with mac mini.
mac mini>emac in every aspect.
imac>mac mini
powermac>imac
prefered choice: imac>all
but you guys all knew that.
I'm thinking of getting a Mac Mini to keep me busy until the Mactels come out...
if an emac falls of the desk but there is no one there using it... does it make a sound?
But seriously... the emac is certainly one of the worst buys of all the apple computers so will it really be missed? Bring on the inbetweener™ Mini's. I would love to have a 1.8 ghz mini with a radeon 9600 or above graphics card with 128 mb or ram. Not as cheap as a mini but not as expensive as a powermac. Now that would be nice ![]()
Bz - you'd have to be pretty stupid to drop a computer off a desk.
I think they should make a replacement for the eMac - a cheap all in one.
I think it should have a G4 CPU but an LCD screen. -BUT- standard Hard drive and Ram, so you can easily upgrade it.
I don't know why apple don't make use of the speed of their processors.
G4s range from 450-733MHz (Sawtooth) and 733-1670MHz. Why don't they put the 1.67GHz CPUs in eMacs/minis ?
I don't likeinis because they aren't good for upgrading. I'd prefer it if it was a bit bigger and used a standard HDD and optical drive, and 3 slots for ram. a mini can only have 1GB of ram, or 2GB if you want to waste money. If you only have 1 computer (the mini) and you upgrade the ram, you have an expensive stick of ram, which is now useless, lying around. I'd prefer to add ram in than replace it.
I hope apple come up with a cheap new alternitive for the eMac - NOT the mini. ![]()

Wuzzie.... I think that it was a metaphor ![]()
If you are on a budget an eMac wouldn't be that bad of a choice. They are the all one package. You can even over clock the processor and hack the firmware to allow dual monitor support. You can install biggere hard drives and a super drive. Of course by then you will be close to the grand mark and you might as well get the new iMac. But considering that they are phasing out the eMacs completley, I bet good deals will be popping up quickly. Here is a nice article on upgrading the eMacs.
eMacs are being promoted towards education...
You can still buy them;
http://www.apple.com/education/emac/
"e is for education"
But besides that, eMacs aren't really being promoted- I mean they're base line G4's with very limited expandability, they look ugly, and are CRT meaning they are large in size...
Cheap...but good for education I guess- has the basix...
Levi - you cant actually buy them. If you click buy now, you find your school and it takes you to teh education apple store - with no eMacs.
Apple often get lazy and forget to remove pages - the powermac G4 page still exists. Search it on google and you can find it.
eMacs are gone... forever... ![]()
