5th Gen ipod Dock

I have a 3rd Gen 10gb iPod with a dock that fits (i dont know when that dock was released, prolly for the 20gb 4th gen). Will this dock work with the new 5th gen 60gb iPod or do i have to buy the new dock? I found the dimensions for my old ipod and the new one, and height and width seems to be same.

You can take a look at the shape of the new iPod - it only has the round coners on the bac,k not in the front.

you're going to need a new dock.

the Apple iPod Universal Dock comes with adapters for the

Nano, Mini, 3G, 4G, Photo and Video.

good news is, that Apple says it will bundle adapters with all future iPods to work with

the Universal Dock. So it may be the last dock you have to buy.

EDIT: went and looked at the measurements,

i'd say, if you are going to get a 5G iPod, get the new dock later, and see if the old dock will work.

i would worry though, that since the 5G is thinner, it may wiggle in the old 3G dock, and break the dock connector.

I have seen pictures where old docks are used with the new Nano, just straight in, without the provided adapter.

I have the 4G dock that I use with my 4G, 5G AND Nano. The only precaution you have to take with the Nano is to insert it carefully and at the proper angle. But it DOES work- as the dock connectors are the same.

Yea Unbeliever, I agree with oc-athlonxp.com. 4G dock works fine with the 60gb 5th gen as they are relatively the exact same dimensions. It wont fit like a glove, but it works. And thats that. Stop trying to tell people what to do, before testing something out yourself.

(P.S. There is no way for the dock connector to break, as there is no wiggle room.)
