[release] Instant Photo

INSTANT PHOTO

Version: 1.00

Author: Wedge (wedgeATcubeitDOTcom)

Credits: Some code based on Judge’s Desktop Picture config.

Description: Instant photos pinned to your desktop using AveDesk/SysStats.

Installation: Just extract to your SysStats folder, keeping the folder structure.

Commands:

Shift + Left-Click to configure.

Double Left-Click to advance picture.

To change the cycle timing you’ll have to change the update time in the desklet configuration dialog.

I did this because although I’ve been using Judge’s Desktop Picture config, I really didn’t like its look (sorry Judge!). I also didn’t want the control overlay because it wasn’t safe in some of my computers.

Since I was always a fan of instant photos I went for this layout.

The desklet size is fairly large, which can be useful on large resolution monitors, but in most cases you may wish to change its scale on the configuration dialog.

When you press Shift and Left-Click simultaneously you’ll be presented with a dialog to choose the folder where the image files you want to show are. Shortcuts can be present on the chosen folder.

The images will slide show in a random cycle. There will be no repetitions until a full cycle is complete and the next cycle will be different.

The desklet will resize itself to match the image ratio and will display the image filename (without extension) on the bottom size of the picture, working as a kind of handwritten description for the image.

I’m using the “Freestyle Script” font. If you don’t like it or don’t have it, you can change it in the desklet configuration dialog. You can get it here: http://www.fonts.com/findfonts/detail.htm?pid=242996. If someone has a similar freeware font I would gladly include it in the pack.

Since you may wish to have the same description on several images but you can’t have several files with the same name, the description will only be displayed up to the last “%” character in the filename, so that you can have the same description for different filenames. Here are some examples:

A file named “Lara Croft%1.jpg” will display “Lara Croft”

A file named “Lara Croft%2.jpg” will display “Lara Croft”

A file named “100% Pure.jpg” will display “100”

A file named “100% Pure%.jpg” will display “100% Pure”

Any filename starting with a “%” will not be displayed at all. This can be useful for temporarily prevent some images from being shown.

The size adjustment is not working as it would remain unchanged in actual size regardless of size spec.
