Hey, I just bought a cellphone (motorolla RAZR) and the people at the cellphone place were all "if you want, for just 20 dollars more, we can give you this software that can get your mp3s to be your ringtone"
i was wondering if anyone knows what "software" these guys are talking about. like, what software do you guys use (if you guys don't buy your ringtones) to compose ringtones from mp3s (steal parts of a song and insert it into your phone as a ringtone)

As long as you own the song I don't see the harm in using it as your ringtone.
I did once use the audio editing utility that came with NERO to create a ringtone from sections of a movie- it was handy to help be clean out the background noise and normalise it. I am sure that audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) would the same thing if you want something free.
I just bluetooth them over to my phone if needed.
I use the USB connection to copy them over, and Bluetooth works as well. RAZRs have built-in support for MP3s, so ignore these guys and their '20 dollars' scam. Just use the Winamp diskwriter to convert it down to a decent bitrate, like 64Kbps (any higher, the phone speaker won't do it any justice and you'll just waste space). Then use Mobile Phonetools that you got with your phone and copy the file over to 'My Music' in the file browser thingy. Bingo! It means I don't have to pay for stupid ringtones and can pick anything from my music colleciton.
