i want to purchase shapshifter, but i have a question. For example: i purchase the shapshifter version 2.2 for $20 and then next week, unsanity releases the shapeshifter version 2.3! 
So do i have to purchase a new version or i can get a free update??

I was wondering the same thing..
It depends on when unsanity wants to do, they just had a major update, and that was free, so I am thinking that the next couple of (small) updates are going to be free, until they do a major overhaul. I'd ask Jason though as he would know the roadmap more than I would.
They'd said that updates from 2.x to 2.9x will be free and upgrading to 3.0 would cost an additional $10 dollars Believe me , it is worth it every single penny. I'm not 100% sure but I'm pretty close to quote to what I've read somewhere 
It should last you for a while. Unless their is a major major update or something big like skinning log in/lout buttons - I think you should be fine.
They haven't charged me for any of the recent updates, I know that...
So apparently, they're doing things Stardock's way (only charge for major releases)?

They charge for major releases, but i think its a nominal fee for existing license holders....best 20 bucks invested
