[link] Get Opera for free again (this time for life)

Some of you may remember Opera was released for free on their 10th birthday a few weeks ago (see http://www.aqua-soft.org/board/showthread.php?t=28113).

Now Opera has decided that they have reached the point where they can release the software for free without the ad bar or registration process that is needed to remove the ad bar.

They have premium support available if you need it.

Wow. Who would have ever thought this would happen? I'm going to try it now.

#316985

Great news ! Although I'm a Firefox user, I'm going to give Opera a try ;)

#317014

Now there's no reason whatsoever not to get addicted to surfing through mouse-gestures!!!

#317270

I personally hate the mouse gestures, but after that 10th anniversary giveaway, I've been using Opera since. Firefox couldn't handle popup ads anymore from news sites and didn't function properly at others. Opera works great on everything I've tried!

Sure, it's a bit ugly. Sure, it's a bit bloated (too much cachéing, wand, gesturing, etc.). However, on a good computer, it's the zippiest browser I've used and is extremely practical.

My only gripe is the need to transfer to tabs immediately for stuff like "Transfers".

There are some nice skins for Opera on their community site, but please, don't expect anything like the near 1:1 Safari skins that were available for FF.

I personally use the Mac IE 5 Native skin with my own Opera install, and it looks pretty good...

Also, the rather extraneous features, although I don't find them to be, can all be turned off under the Advanced Preferences. It's a hell of a lot easier to do so in Opera, than in FF.

Minimalistic and usable skin called (M 7.12). The F12-key menu kicks ass ;)

#317452

OMFG!! Nirodha = Grusic!!

#317457

LOL, What!?!? :)

#317470

Personally, I don't Opera. There are a few problems in Firefox, sure, but once you get used to them, it's the only way to surf the web.

#317528

sweetness, i'll give it a go :)

I'm so glad it's free now, I'm using Opera for years now.

It tried Firefox many times but it's not as fast as Opera and especially it's not so direct when you click on something. Opera is just perfect now!

It's sure that Firefox is not bad, but Opera is better :-)

Opera 4 Life ;-)

after being a long-time firefox user, ive finally switched to opera. with it being free, i finally tried it out and wow it is quite a bit quicker than firefox. its so responsive! i love it! its my new default browser :)

#317692

I can't believe it but I've switched from Firefox to Opera too!

#317695

Nope, anyone who purchased it in the last 30 days can get a full refund. Current customers recieve premium support Untill Opera 9.

I hope a lot of aqua-soft members switch to opera, then we can see some wicked skins for it :)

#317697

Thank you for the posting. I have download Opera and it is working great. With Safari, there was some javascript error when I was accessing the Akeni Corporate IM web client, but now with Opera, there is no longer any javascript error.

This might seem like a stupid question, but how do you get the tabbed pages to be below the address bar, like in Firefox?

I tried dragging it below the address bar but can't seem to move it?

Well, in Opera you cant drag 'n' drop the adress bar. It´s below the tab bar by default.

But there is another way to get what you want:

- turn of the Opera default adress bar with "CTRL+F8"

- right click on the main toolbar -> "customize"

- choose "Buttons" -> "Browser view"

- then you can drag the "adress bar button" and drop it into the main bar at any place you like

- press "ok" to close the app. window

now you have the adress bar above the tabbed pages :)
