[help] Realistic smoke

Hello peeps...I need to recreate a sort of downward thrust type thing for my Eagle rescue wall.

It's driving me bonkers...here's a preview of my best effort...sorry!

As you can see...it just hasn't got that 'oomph' factor.

Any tips?

What software do you have/are you using?

Bryce for the modelling, then into photoshop.

It does have if you ask me. This is already very cool.

let me tell you what i think, as a layman: the smoke looks static. a good place to start would be some downwards motion blur, i think. also, i guess the smoke goes to the right a little because of wind, but it's too sharp of a turn. too angled, as it were. and as the wind is going left-to-right, some wisps going right would help. and, of course, the smoke should be thicker and more compact closer to the aircraft and thinner and wispier closer to the ground.

of course, all this is based on this being a ship taking off. that is what that's a pic of, right?

shmengie...yes, that's it. It's too static. I'll try all you suggested.

Just a try. ;)

I used blur around the smoke.

Erasor...thanks for that...I'm looking into particle effects at the mo'...could be the way to go here.

Knocked this together real quick. Its just an idea on how to create a smoke effect in photoshop.

Tips

Works better if you actually put any effort in to it ;)

I'll tell you why it looks odd.

Your smoke is breaking into seperate lines while travelling down, and also backwards :o

If the smoke is that dense then it would continue on its own path / but it if was less dense and lighter then there would be less direct smoke and more of a cloud. Also it would loose density the further it was from the object not solid all the way down.
