Microsoft "Gadgets"

http://microsoftgadgets.com/

Came across this on techdirt, thought you guys might like to see what microsoft is copying these days.

I don't think there is anything to download though. Interesting anyways.

I love the way they make it sound like they're the first one to come up with the idea of "gadgets" on your desktop.

Maybe they do...

Maybe they do...

And maybe you have no idea what you're talking about?

Gadgets/Widgets have been around long before OSX, Konfab and Windows.

The timeline of the modern implementation of widgets/gadgets goes like this: DesktopX, Konfabulator, Apple, Microsoft.

Sorry to burst your bubble but OS 9 had widgets long before DesktopX

And what exactly mean by "modern"? Gfx?

It's the concept that matters, not flashy Konfab or butt-ugly DX graphics.

Actually Apple already had something like it back in the System 7 days...

#315721

i think they should have called them "Midgets" like microsoft widgets. better than "Gadgets" anyway...

#315773

another typical Microsoft-blowing-it's-own-trumpet stuff... and as always, they claim they invented the trumpet !!!

After seeing gadgets, I'd love to see how Vista will turn out.

Maybe on the release date there'll be some type of surprise where Vista is really OS X using intel. :)

#315817

LOL, I don't know why you guys get mad at who came out first wtih WHATEVER... whatever they make it's for us anyways... so we win all the time... at least I do

#315823

Pshaww, I thought of this idea over 50 years ago, before the desktop GUI concept was even invented.

Moses came up with the idea of widgets whilst crossing the Red Sea.

#315848

In fact, Moses parted the Red Sea using a holy widget!

It was shaped like a plow and had a siphonic drop shadow.

M$... original... Like always... no? :P

#315923

Who really gives a crap about who came up with what first.

All I care about is what works. In the end, that's all consumers care about as well.

Fanboys and psuedo history teachers need to chill.

#315925

that's what I said

Right after Apple lets uses Dell towers and lets OS X run on windows machines

Right after they release myLife (including myTunes, myPhoto, myMovie and myDVD) and iSlave (including Keypresentation and Notes).

Next we'll have Boogie and Moving pro apps.

Even PC World is bashing MS for its "originality"
