Gadgets/Widgets have been around long before OSX, Konfab and Windows.
The timeline of the modern implementation of widgets/gadgets goes like this: DesktopX, Konfabulator, Apple, Microsoft.

After seeing gadgets, I'd love to see how Vista will turn out.
Maybe on the release date there'll be some type of surprise where Vista is really OS X using intel.
