AppleCare Extra Fees?

I had to buy my iMac AppleCare this morning because I couldn't get tech support for it (not even live chat) without it. (had till Sept 26th) So anyway got AppleCare, and the person I talked with on Live Support really wasn't much of a help, didn't fix the issue I'm having with my iMac...

So my question is, say I call apple later today, and they send me a box to ship the imac to them or whatever, will I get charged for parts and labor on it? How does that work?

Also say I take it into a certified apple reseller, like compusa... do I pay compusa fees and stuff like that?

I'm not sure, but as I brought mine in, I got everything free (the exchanged 1 of my rams, which was damaged)

what happened to your iMac?

I was lucky, my warrenty (for tech support) expired a while ago, yet when I called for live chat and on the phone I was able to get help even if I didn't have applecare, I guess it really depends on the tech support person you get.

But what problems are you having? you might be able to get that fixed through the recall program for certain rev. A. iMacs.

Well... its mostly very loud noise, now the imac has been loud over the year... but over the past month its prob 5x times louder. Also the leftside of the screen (where the cpu is), is MUCH darker than the right side, heat damage?

Try getting the light dimmer firmware update, though it has nothing to do with the fans, perhaps it might help. As for the lcd, yeah that does look bad, I've had it get slightly darker where the menubar is, but it always goes back to normal after a night's rest. Do you leave the LCD turned on all night/day?

I have to turn my mac of 99% of the day cause its so loud, and about the firmware, got that the day it was released.

I've reset the pram, firmware crap, you name it I've done it. :(

I just turned it on after having it off for about 10hrs and after I open a finder window, HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM BUZ gets loud and loud.

sys prefs>energy saver>options>processor performance>automatic

make sure you dont have it on highest, that causes my fans to roar. Otherwise yeah contact dem apple mofos in india.

Its not that either... its been set on that, reduced... nothing changes.

Funny the thing acts up right before the warr. expires.

search at macnn, I've seen tons of posts like this one, with further solutions. (they run the gamut between bad ram and or usb devices etc)

Whatever you do, dont bring your iMac to compusa. They are a pain in the @$$. I brought my brothers computer to them and they said i needed more parts and then they said that those parts i just bought from them were busted so i had to buy more parts! They suck. Bring it to an apple store if there is one near you, or another certified Apple reseller. But dont bring it to compusa.

They're sending me a new screen and something else, but the guy for some reason would not send me a fan when I requested one to see if that was the problem.

Crap this sucks. Sorry to hear that man, I would just go buy the parts and replace them myself, it will

probably cost you less than all the running around and paying for applecare and wierd 3rd party fees.
