[help] are visual styles going to be used in vista?

I was wondering if windows vista is going to use some sort of msstyles type engine.....i have heard a lot of people who have public betas so i was wondering if the beta uses msstyles or something like that....(as i'd like to be able to take my current custom visual style and port it to vista when it comes out)....if someone could give me this info that would be great......)

please dont grill me too much for this far fetched question....

you most likely will not be able to use current visual styles with the new Windows Vista. this is probably for several reasons:

1. internal Windows structure is organized differently.

2. Vista is designed for a 64-bit system (though i believe they will also ship in 32 bit at first), and current visual styles are all designed for 32-bit systems.

3. Microsoft may have completely overhauled their entire skinning engine, so even if they use the .msstyle file type (which is not guaranteed), it may work completely differently.

But no worries. I can pretty much guarantee that the skinning community will have the skinning engine all figured out within a single week of the official release date, and many new and wonderful themes will be released by all our favorite designers :).

how bout living with your existing stuff and wait for Vista to be officially released? You still have 1 year left till then, so just live happily with VS or WB with your good old XP

i didn't really expect to use my existing msstyles anyway....i guess the new os will be skinnable ....i just wanted to know if any beta users know anything about the internal skinning engine in the beta version...like how it is set out (there is no doubt in my ming that it wont change in the next year though!) thanks for your replies

Windowblinds will support Vista and I have heard the protection on the new styles has already been worked around in the beta, so I doubt the final will be much more difficult.

Windowblinds will allow you to import old Msstyles in so they can be used in Vista, but why you would want to limit the Vista engine by doing that I'm not sure. New WB and MSStyles will be so far ahead.

Protection on the new styles has already been hacked on the vista beta. There are already styles available at http://www.ronny.org.uk/ for example. And windowblinds will support Vista like Septimus said

Vista is already being "skinned", take a look here: http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?show...365534&hl=vista

Looks like only the colors and bitmaps are changed but it's already started. I thought it was interesting anyway. Maybe by the time Vista comes out your msstyle will be ported to it or at least something similar.

Ive got news for you all, you may think the windows vista theme looks awesome, but it doesnt run very well at all. It runs sluggish on my pc at times, even with my videocard....

I would suggest you have atleast MY hardware before you even consider it.

hmmm interesting...well what i wanted to be able to do is mod my current vs and port some elemants of it to vista when i get it....(bearing in mind that i would mod the theme for the theme engine)
