CPU Meter Has Stopped Updating

Hi All,

This isn't a strictly SysStats issue, but SysStats/AveDesk is where I noticed it first.

My problem: All CPU Meters other than taskmgr (sysstats, utility sysinfo modules) are stuck at 0%. The CPU meter in taskmgr functions normally.

The sysinfo module in TuneUp Utilities for the kernel shows threads = help, processes = help, mutexes = help. On my other system where all CPU meters work, these have actual values (608, 30, 373)

The problem computer is a WinXP Pro SP2 laptop with a Northwood P4 3400MHz processor. I returned home from a trip on Thursday night, and Friday morning while doing system housekeeping and application updates, I noticed the problem. So I'm pretty sure it's a self-induced headache.

I have run full scans for virii with ZoneAlarm Security Suite, for trojans with Trojan Hunter 4 and for spyware with Spybot and Ad-Aware, all updated with the latest definitions. I didn't find any evidence of malware of any kind.

I will try restoring a disc image from last month to see if it helps. Even if I am successful, I need to know what triggered this so that I don't do it again.

I would be grateful for any ideas on where to start solving this problem.

Thanks,

Jeff

Thanks, judge. The regfix worked system-wide, except for sysstats in AveDesk. I fiddled around and finally just deleted the old, frozen sysstats meter from my theme. On a hunch, I added a different sysstats CPU meter and got it working inside of AveDesk. Then it was just a matter of synching up my config and image files to get the old meter back and working. (I'm still running AveDesk 1.1. )

I found out what caused the problem - I decided to try and run my 2 GB RAM system with no paging file. Once I deleted the paging file, the CPU meters stopped working. Unfortunately, restoring or resetting the pf didn't bring back CPU meter operation until I applied the regfix you gave me.

Thank you!

Jeff
