MINt Clone

I was a bit bummed when Andrew announced that he couldn't continue with MINt, so I decided to see if I could write a clone. It is currently in beta testing and I am expecting to release a public beta early next week. It still has one or two issues and I am busy adding the settings dialog to the application.

One thing that I was hoping for was a suggestion for a name. It's development name is Deskcon, but I wasn't sure if that was appropriate for a release name. So anyone got any ideas?

Deskcon sounds pretty technical.. I liked some of the suggestions on the MINt thread. You could ask roxtar or Tobbz if you can use one of their suggestions. Or you could think of a name a little more abstract.. maybe something like Thumbtacks or Pushpin because it lets you 'attach' your windows to the desktop like little reminders

This is great, I use this function on windowshade x on my mac at work. I'm glad your trying to make this happen for us all on PC's. I've been using madotate for this, but the window does'nt get small enough when it's set back in 3D mode. Thanks for making an attempt at this, and a damn good one at that. Dig it.

anychance of adding a transparency function to it?

So when the windows are minmized to the desktop in the form of thumbnails so that they can be set at 0 - 100% transparency.......

I think that would look really cool.

Also maybe a function where it remembers where you want your windows docked to so that all minimzed windows go there rather than youhaving to individually dragging them over next to each other. It would be better for grouping. Maybe even if teh widnows slightly overlapped....

well, transparency is already in. Thumbnails remember their position, so you would only have to drag them once until you log out, reboot or close the window.

There are plans for smart positioning, which will provide a lot more options, but I want to get an initial version out so that people can fiddle and help to build up a complete feature list.

So basically, feature 1 is in, feature 2 is on the list.

Andrew was forced to stop production for copyright infringement. He was in contact with Stardock (i believe) about similarities in function between MINt and one of their products. You may want to get in contact with him and make sure you aren't following suit...

illumination and andrew are in fairly frequent contact and have already talked things through.

The issue was with andrew having a conflict of interest with Stardock if he kept developing MINt as a personal application, so there's no problem with illumination doing it
