Aqua-Soft ForumsI have a DSL modem connected to one of the three USB ports on the back of my HP Pavilion laptop (ZD7010EA). If I leave this plugged in when hibernating, it kills the computer - BSOD on restart every time, and then need to restart. So I usually just unplug it whenever I hibernate, but I'm wondering if anybody knows of a programme or a simple routine I could run to disable the USB ports before hibernating, so that I can leave the modem plugged in. I run ObjectDock, so it would be really convenient if there was a little icon on the dock I could click and that would shut down the ports, then I can hibernate, and then click again when I restart to get the ports up and running again... Anybody got any suggestions?

it's possible to disable a particular device with a .vbs file. unfortunately, i don't know how to make one, but at least i've given you a direction to google in.
try disabling the modem and then hibernating (win+pause - device manager - disable) to make sure it doesn't hang you computer even if disabled.
isnt there a setting somewhere in hibernate/standby options or device manager, about "waking up" if theres activity on a certain port? just try disabling that option. or just hit the standby switch on the modem (i know cable modems have them)
and why are you connected to the modem through usb? isnt ethernet faster?
Well it's a USB modem - that's what the service came with... I don't know if ethernet is faster, but this is plenty quick. I'll look into 'waking up'. Thanks.
