Taskbar on top, covering the title bar?

Is there a way in XP at all to keep the taskbar on top of the maximized window but have it actually overlap the window in focus?

I keep the taskbar docked at the top of the screen, and I'm interested in finding a way for the taskbar to obscure the titlebar of a maximized window - rather than have it sitting beside it.

I can't seem to find anything - perhaps its impossible?

When the taskbar is set to 'keep on top' and 'autohide', it covers the title bar of a maximised window - I'd like to keep it there over it permanently.

A similar effect can be acheived by unchecking 'keep on top', maximizing a window so it fills the screen - then pressing the start key with the keyboard and left clicking to a space on the taskbar to get rid of the Start menu. Obviously the taskbar then disappears once the main window is brought back into focus.

I understand that having the taskbar obscuring the min, restore and close buttons on the title bar might seem strange, but I don't feel it matters if they can be called up with a right click on the taskbar anyway- I'd prefer it to using autohide or having both the taskbar and titlebar sat next to each other.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I use the taskbar on top, but I've got it always visible. And when a window goes so high that I can't see the titlebar, the only thing I have to do is unlock the taskbar and lock it again, and the titlebar is visible again...

i just deal with it. lol.

since the taskbar is covering up the X-+ buttons, all u need to do is right click on that window on the task bar and pick "restore" and maximize again

Thanks Ivan - yes you're right I actually want the titlebar on a maximized window to be covered by the taskbar. So theres constant access to the taskbar but without the annoying title bar next to it just wasting space telling me what program I have open!

I don't know much about this, but like to know if changing anything in the registry could make this happen? Only things I can think of is either telling the 'autohide' function to not hide like it should, but just stay there.

Or change the maximize settings so open windows use the desktop parameters to enlarge to, rather than set to enlarge just underneath the taskbar, when its set to 'keep on top'?
