[Question] Opening Local Shortcut from a Local HTML document.

Is it at all possible to have a local HTML page open up local shortcut files (or EXEs directly)?

The reason I ask is I'm trying to make a more organised version of my start menu (A bit like OSXs Application folder, but with a few more details, etc.) and the only thing I know well is graphics and HTML... and graphics aren't going to solve this.

I've searched every nook and cranny of Google for an answer, but it appears no one wants to touch this idea with a barge pole. Is this a hint I should be taking?

the only thing even remotely answering your question that i know of involves using Active Desktop. look to http://wint.virtualplastic.net/showtweak.php?tweak_id=129 for more on this. there are other things on that site about making html toolbars, but nothing really to do with the start menu :/. i think tho that if you relly want to be able to do what you're talking about, you'd have to do some serious hacking of the various menus and stuff in order to get them to display what you want them to.

.... btw all this is assuming that you're talking about windows. and if this is a thread for a mac, you need to edit a bit to be more specific XD.

I wasn't actually talking about the menus... more about using IE as an advanced application explorer.
