Aqua-Soft ForumsWell, I'm curious what anyone's experience with them is with, and without, MobyDock. Any increase in performance noticed, or worse? Any new bug popped up? I'm mainly asking because they claim a 30% increase in performance, atleast with FX cards, and I'm getting a cheap on of them soon.

Dont get a FX, they suck, really. The 5200 is worse than the GF4MX , and the 5600 is worse than the Ti4200.
Theres been loads of benchmarks. Id go for an ATI card if I were you. The 9500 is sweet, and they're fasing it out soon, so you should snatch one up.
And that 30% increase was possibly faked, theres an article on it somewhere. They tweaked a couple of things to make the benchmark scores go up, but it doesnt really help your game at all.

I have a Ti4600 and thinking of changing it to an ATI. So should I get the 9500 or the 9700?
I'd go for the 9500 if you dont got the cash. I tested it for about a week, and loved it. Probably would be even better with the new drivers that are out. Im gonna be getting the pro 9500 within a month cause its a really great card. It compares pretty well with the ti4600
The 9500 isnt any better than the Ti4600, so if the choice is between those 2, the 9700 Pro. But I wouldnt do that. Youve got an amazing card. Yeah, its not DX9, but theres no games that use it anyway (except for X2:Wolverines Revenge, woopie). Id wait a while, at least until Doom 3.
Go ATI if you can.
get teh 9700 and use hacked drivers to get it to a 9800
people on this forum need to keep up with current news before voicing their opinion and sounding ignorant, the new geforce fx will be better than all current ati cards, this is the 5900 fx.

the new detonators do not provide noticable improvement on my machine for mobydock. i have a ti4600 128mb + amd1800+.
so far they are not causing anomalies or errors in any games, so it won't hurt to upgrade them, the crap floating around about "OMG THEY ARE TEH CHEATARS AT 3DMARK03" is just a bunch of sh##, it was an error, 3dmark03 is a pile of crap as far as code goes, i know, i'm a programmer.

I have read benchmarks and reviews, and I found that $78 for a GeForce FX 5200 (which has great overclocking ability) was the most reasonable solution since my GeForce 2 burnt-out. It is not worse then the 4 MX, that one is a piece of it's own, sheesh..
The main thing that turned me on to it was its FULL DX9 support. Only ATI's 9800 and the GeForce FX cards have it, and in a year or two it will begin to matter, giving my FX much more lasting power then a Radeon 9500 or 4 Ti, expecially for its price.

Listen the FX5200 really does suck. And the 9500-9700 also has FULL DX9 support.
Check out Toms Hardware. It wasnt even close. The ONLY thing the FX5200 did better was Anti Aliasing.
About the "Nvidia Cheaters" thing, i dont really have an opinion either way, but I was just saying not always to believe 3DMark.
Toms Hardware uses a multitude of tests, and I trust them.
Now thats too say, the FX5200 wasnt 10x worse or anything, and the Geforce4MX is a pretty good card (for the price), so its not like you didnt get a good card, there's just better for the price.
If it was my $$$, id go for a Ti4200 on the low end, the Radeon 9500 Pro on the middle end, and the 9800 Pro on the high.
And I dont judge cards by their overclocking ability, because that IS dangerous, and it voids your warranty, so you cant call that an official rating.
I just don't want the Ti, without DX 9 support I don't see the point in getting it. It's like if you were to get a GeForce 2 instead of a 3 a few years ago, you would be missing out on the pixel shading functions and a few others, sure not right away, but soon enough. And now it's the same thing here.
The cheapest price for a Radeon 9500 is $128. That is a $50, or a ~40%, increase in price, and Tom's Hardware's reviews gave the Radeon 9500 <10 fps (many cases actually just 1 fps) more on their benchmarks, and all of those were taken with the old nVidia 42.x version drivers, since which there have been quite a few improvements; supposedly a good amount specifically for the FX cards in the latest few.
I'm on a limited budget too, I have no job ATM so little money is comming in.
And overclocking had nothing to do with me purchasing it. It's just good to know that people have managed to overclock both the GPU and RAM by >100 Mhz with no problems, so if I don't feel that I have enough power I can push 'er to the max.
I wouldnt really recommend the Ti4200 except on the low end. Its still a great card though. THERE ARE NO DX9 GAMES!! The first "real" one is coming out in November. If you want DirectX9, id wait until September-October anyway, you'll get a better deal and a lot more choice.
Its not just about these new DX9 "features" , its clocks and pipelines and other junk like that. The FX5200 has HALF the piplelines of the Ti4200 and is clocked like 200Mhz lower. Theres obviously a lot more to video cards as well, but my point is that its not just about DX9.
My suggestion: Go for the Radeon 9500 Pro. Its super cool. :own:
But on the subject: Always get the latest Nvidia drivers (betas), while Nvidia has many more driver updates than ATI, they dont make them official for a very long time. Check out guru3d.com every couple weeks and pick up the new driver. Maybe it will only give you like 2-5% increase, but hey, it only took 10 minutes to do.
