[Request] Free backup software

Hey

Does anybody know of some good backup software?

I need one where I can select which folders to backup, have it in .zip format (not thier own one, then I have to search for thier program... o_O) and I can burn it straight onto a DVD. No saving it to the hard drive (there's like 2mb left) and no disk images. BTW, compression would be helpfull. I oly have 8 single layer DVDs.

DO NOT recommend simply safe backup. It sucks, and it doesn't deserve capital letters or a TM symbol. It just doesn't work for me. (it spent 3 hours to burn 10mb of files that I didn't even want onto a DVD - waste of time and money)

If ur using xp it has built in backup software its not the best but it is free

On a related note, anyone know a good (simple, and free) program I can use to burn DVDs with? I'd rather not use Explorer.

look out for deepburner, it does a great job

but to use the burn feature in shrink, you need nero installed as well....

and re: deepburner, if i'm not mistaken, it doesn't make player-compatible dvd's... it only can do data dvd's. http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=DeepBurner

I decided to settle on deepburner--worked perfectly!

you should be able to use a demo version of nero.

plus, the dvdshrink creators explicitly say that other apps can be used:

If you already possess alternative burning software and prefer to stick with it, then you can still use DVD Shrink.

there has to be a way to burn without nero. ><

i've never heard of deepburner, but i'm going to check it out too.

1. You can only have one directory (eg. C:/ or C:/Documents and Settings) rather than multiple (C:/Documents and Settings and C:/Program Fiels)

2. Can you burn to DVD?

If you can burn to DVD, I will get that spare 60GB disk and copy the files to that, then burn the entire drive, compressed, onto some DVDs (probably about 4)
