[help] CD is stuck inside my G3 desktop

I have a G3 blueberry desktop. It works pretty well, expect a couple of days ago when I put a CD in the computer. When I used the eject command, the CD didn't come out. Everytime I start up the computer I can hear the CD trying to come out, but it doesn't. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the CD out?

Right this is kinda scary way - but worked for me

You see the indented button next to the restart button on the side? Thats the developer button, when you restart/turn on depress it for around 5 seconds and then the mac should give a beep and then go into a grey screen where you can type.

enter 'eject'

amazingly enough that ejects anything in the drive

then just press restart.

If that doesn't work your gonna have to open up the machine and take out the drive.

Tricky, thank you very much for your suggestion, but I get the message "eject can't OPEN the EJECT device"...maybe that's because I tried to force the CD out with a paper clip. Any other suggestions?

I only got some experience with the Graphite model, but the drives should be similar in all kind of computers

If you push a paperclip inside the small hole under the tray then it should open. (That's basic information about drives actually so I think you already have tried this)

Indeed all cd/dvd drives have a small hole on the right hand side bottom, which you can place a paperclip to eject the drive.

My G3 doesn't have an eject button, so if I were to use the paper clip method, which side should I insert the clip on?

first, pull down/open the cd drawer faceplate, right? then, on the right side of the drive, about halfway down, there should be a little hole. that's where you stick the paperclip. then, just push in until the drawer opens. good luck!

Try useing another CD slide it in just a bit and use it to press down on the "stuck" CD while ejecting. I think this will cause the eject mechanism to engage. Worth a shot.

This has also worked for me...

To eject a CD when your computer is not booting, or even not getting far enough to boot into an OS

1. Restart the computer.

2. Immediately after the startup sound, press and hold the key combination Apple-Option-O-F.

3. Release the keys when you see a white screen that says

“Welcome to Open Firmware, the system time and date is : 12:28:45 01/01/1904

The battery capacity is at 88 percent

To continue booting, type mac-boot….

4. At the prompt, type: eject cd , the CD should then eject

6. Type: mac-boot , to continue booting
