Microsoft Messenger for Mac 5.0 now available

http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.asp...lgnosysreq=True

Yup...finally an update to Messenger for Mac.

Better interface (brushed metal), ability to use multiple protocols (AOL/AIM/iChat/Yahoo) and improvement in file transfer speeds.

Neowin has some screenshots: http://www.neowin.net/comments.php?id=29872&category=main

One thing will piss off Mac users though. STILL no support for Audio or Webcam.

My advice: Stick to Adium or Proteus.

i hate it when microsoft acts like IBM by being slow and unupdated and lazy and taking their time when the earth revolves millions of times around the sun before they move a finger.

i like these quotes fom another forum:

Jesus, is it really that difficult to make MSN for Mac that is equal to the PC version. My favourite feature on the PC version is that it shows in your display name what is playing in your itunes. I would love that!

Those boys an gals in the Mac MSN dev team must having been spending far to much time playing on prototype xbox 360's  Those bastards...

AV support would be the only thing that would make me bother...and it isn't in there. This would be like Adobe jumping up and down because they're releasing PS6 for the Mac tomorrow.

I don't get it! why doesn't microsoft create something with a design like that to her own OS users??

I guess because the Mac MSN team are really enthusiastic about OSX and they dont need/want to copy the Windows UI - thats why you get the nice design. I downloaded it for my iBook this morning and its realy really nice.

the updates are very good and nesessary because 4.0.1 STINKS! i like the updates, but it's a crippled version of the pc version. they just released some features that are from a 5 year old messenger program and put some pretty gui (which i actually appreciate) and some other interface. i hope the MacMicrosoft team gets their gears running quickly. everybody on macs either use Adium, or Mercury. which both rocks.

Because Microsoft's Mac division is an entire different part of the company, they just get orders from Microsoft what to make plus what features it needs and they decide what the best way is to implement them (simply said).
