Hi all, It's going to be a long post so grab a cup of your fav bev now ...
I've been working on something I like to call ibar. I kind of reverse engineered CRNI's
excellent OB themes to figure out how Objectbar worked. I also looked at the settings used
in said OB themes to get the right look. Based on this knowledge I built my project from the
ground up but I did use the graphics within CRNI's OBthemes.
For example, I took the Menu and bar skins (Along with some Icons used in the theme) and used
them to visually represent my project. I know CRNI has given his consent to use his engine or any part of his themes without written permission and I fully intend to give him his deserved kudos. The grey areas for me are the following :
- Are the graphics included in the OBthemes copyright CRNI or the original theme authour?
Example : Are the graphics contained within let's say the Shinobi OBtheme copyright CRNI or
Takashi Izawa?
- When CRNI says
Keep in mid that you still need permission from original OSX themes authors if you want to release you work.
What does he mean? That I can't use lets say the name ibar:Shinobi as a release name? or
that I can't use the Shinobi graphics without the original authors consent? (Bare in mind that the Graphics are all taken from CRNI's work and not the various other authors his work is based on)
Alot of people I know have asked if I can release these themes and I don't want it to turn in to a fiasco of permissions, Copyrights and which came first the chicken or the egg ..
Can anyone shed some light on this subject? Thanks .....
