[help] looking for a linux distro

i dont remember the name of it, but i remeber the webpage was "pretty" and claimed it was one of the easiest distros, the screenshots looked very mac-ish as well, with a top bar and a dock..

sound familiar to anyone?

thanks in advance.

well, the one i got at work, which has the 'taskbar' on top and a kind-of taskbar on the bottom is ubuntu. it's the easiest to install and use distro i've ever run across. hth!

I believe you can have both the dock and topbar with any distro (I might be wrong as i'm a new to Linux). I'm using Fedora core 4 (free version of Red Hat) and with this distro you can have as many bar as you want. The dock is however a third party app if i'm not wrong.

:) :)

PS: oh Fedora installation was a piece of cake too, I'm yet to have any problem with it, everything is working wonderfully here, even my wireless PC card (Netgear).

Don't forget Slackware!

Its easy to use, doesn't cover the window managers with their logo,

and its one of the oldest distro's still around.

oh yeah, it took 15 minutes to install everything for me..

And the dock might be from enlightenment.org

ok i found it.. its vlos... does anyone have any experience with this?

#306765

nope. just go for it! keep us posted...

I've tested Vlos 1.2 and its rather good, it's got a fully automated install much like Suse or Fedora and its desktop is based on Gnome, it's nice looking too (sorry no screenshots) and its packaging system is easy to maintain and up-to-date with recent distros. A very good **** distro if you want to try your hand at Linux and not a huge download (only 1 CD) compared to Fedora's 4CDs or 1 DVD. I recommend it.

Edit: Easy install, its running the Anaconda install system like Fedora that's why. Screenshots coming soon!

your original description sounds like FoX Linux.

it has a taskbar along the top, with a dock-looking thing along the bottom (definetely more of a dock than a taskbar, like vlos). It is based on KDE.

the site is http://foxlinux.org

I am planning to install this distro tomorrow on my laptop. I might upload some screenshots then.

The image below is a smaller version of one on the site.

The dock is however a third party app if i'm not wrong.

It is, as far as I know. however

a) a similar look can be achieved with the KDE bottom bar by modifying a few settings (although this doesn't quite achieve the look of the actual Mac one) Edit: Matter of fact, it's nowhere near the Mac one

B) FoX comes with this 3rd party app and all the other nececary (I know that's spelled wrong) er... stuff for it to look like mac.
