This forum seemed to be builded for people porting Mac OS X style to Windows. Apple's applications such as iChat, itunes, AdiumX,iphoto and else are usually the customizing templet. I get a question. "Who get the permission from the original author of Mac OS X?"

What confuse me more is that the famous themer Bzeitler said in Jun, 21 that the Samui for windows would come probably 1-2 weeks away while his next theme for Mac has a beta vision now. Today is Apr, 7,but where is Samui VS.

Some guy ported it and released in this threat which has been closed cause the copyright issue. The one did not get the permission. But people are crazy about that porting stuff(Someone from Singapore ask me via email for it today). They shared with each other undergrund.

Will we never have a great theme if the author will not let us port it? Such as the Niqu case .

My point is that if someone port a theme from Mac, allow him to release. People would use the original one if they like to. Kudos to anyone who makes great stuff.

ok let me tell you, Bz and I have been working on Samui port recently. The port should be out soon, you can have a look at the preview here. I'm not trying to tease people (if I wanna do that, i would have posted a preview thread) I just want to say that Windows port for Samui will be out soon, a long with Firefox theme, styler toolbar and some other goodies. If you think you can help me, that's great otherwise, just be patient and stop compaining :)

It remains the prerogative of the original author whether or not to allow ports. You and I, my learned friend, have precious little to say except to offer a suggestion to the contrary.

This issue has been discussed ad nauseum in the Niqu preview thread in February if memory serves me right. Let's not create another flamebait thread - though it may not necessarily be your intention to do so - and spoil the cosy homely atmosphere that these forums have been enjoying since that controversy died down.

While there have been new modding sections created in communities like MacThemes, it remains a fact that not all authors have agreed to allow their themes to be used for mods. Similarly, if an author doesn't wish his work to be ported to other platforms and lose a large chunk of audience, that is his right.

Let's just leave it at that. Please realise that such a discussion may have a negative impact and result in more theme creators refusing to allow ports rather than the contrary

What about we port panther or tiger to Windows. What about the outline of this forum? The auther of the Apple company do not have that right to forbid porting?

Please remember, people can share port stuff underground. To be honest, the VS or the WB style which is working by Bz(As the preview above) is not as good as the ported one in that closed threat.

porting Panther/Tiger is a different story my friend, I believe this has been discussed over and over again so many times already. You might wanna do a search if you want to find out more about that. Such attitude doesn't help to improve the community, it just leads Mac themers to recognise us, porters, as rippers and thieves. Lets sit back and wait for this thread to get closed.

It must be better if there is a competition. The author can do the porting. So do someone else. We chose the better one.

To choose an official port or to choose an unofficial port not granted recognition by the original theme creator and shared underground is the prerogative of the end user.

However, I don't think this contributes in any way to the healthy growth of the theming community. What is bound to inevitably happen as a result is that more Mac themers will continue in the same vein and forbid ports of their themes.

If a port is good enough to be recognised by the original author as the official port, it speaks volumes about the skill and knowledge of the person who has created the port. Also, most official ports are created using the author's original resources.

I think it is a moot point to discuss which port the community would prefer to use. In any case, I think it would be wise not to carry this further.

Sharing themes underground is not something which should be discussed as an alternative in this situation and the sooner we recognise that this is causing problems for genuine artists on both platforms, the better it will be for everyone concerned.

Stop whining yangbao.

If you didn`t make the theme, you don`t have the right to chose who ports it. Even though i don`t agree with authors who don`t allow ports, i support their decision.

All this whining makes me sick.

Also, try to spread the unsolicited ports and you will be banned.

PS I tried that Samui port you mentioned and it was pure, utter crap.
