[Help] Connection Issue

I have a linksys 4-port wired router, it connects 3 computers, my mom's, my computer, and the guest computer which is in my room, my friend comes over all the time to LAN counter-strike with me, he uses his own steam account, and he installed it with his own cd... we can LAN 1 x 1 match ok, we can also play online in different servers but the problem is that we cannot play in the same server, when he's in a server playing and I try to go in, it disconnects him and fails for me.....

help anyone?

I think it has to do with ports being open, and the router not knowing where to send the information... can you connect to CS servers using different ports?

Check your router settings and see if your two comps dont have the same IP, that way the server would

recognize both PCs as one and not allow it to have two connections.

Ah, that's the problem. The Steam server would think you were trying to make 2 connections from the same computer, and kick you off of one!

No, a static IP will only be recognized within the lan: once you're outside the lan environment (internet) your ISP will assign one IP for your whole network.

e.g.

I could have 192.168.0.10 as internal IP address, but something completely different as internet IP address.

No, that cant be the case, I've played on the same server with my brother numerious times in CS:S and HL2DM.

It could have something to do with your router. Try unplugging the router, that may work. If that doesnt work try to open the ports for CSS...etc.
