Do you befriend, or spite elitist Mac users?

At one time, I was tempted to get a Mac. I loved the interface, and I liked how it worked. It really didn't matter about speed or power, but more so the looks and how I can run Mac, Linux, and Windows applications all in one box at around 1:1 speed.

But there was an X-Factor that changed it all.

Uptight elitist Mac users.

I don't mean like Timan (Finally got it right) who has a Powerbook, but the people who go around taunting PC users and people who don't have Macs.

They made me think. If they want me to buy a Mac, why not just do the exact opposite and not get one.

Especally since in my oponion Apple will fall down hard if they make any bad marketing moves.

So I wanted to know, how many of you hate how a lot of Mac users seem to be elitists?

I mean they try everything in their right mind to topple Microsoft and have everyone buy this holy grail of computing called a Mac, but in the end, they make people (like me) just turn their back on what they used to want so badly.

So do you befriend them, or do you spite them?

that's funny. i was just talking about the same thing last weekend. most pc users i know are like, 'yeah. i guess the mac is kinda cool.' and most mac users are like, 'a pc? how gauche! i don't think so!' levis and a homebuilt pc versus designer jeans and a designer computer. my friends don't do gucci.

the only reason i would get a mac is for the some of the apps i.e. iLife. but you can do basically the same thing w/ a PC. i dont know about movie editing, but Reason is a very good music producing prog. I think ill save my money and stick w/ the PC.

I have an iMac G5, and had an iMac333 and an iBook G4...

I have both. Both have their Pro's and Con's, but I just hate when mac users believe every damn thing apple makes is the best thing since CHEESE.

That's a good point Kenta.. Mac=Elitist for some people, but its not the machine or a trade mark who made the person .. (If i understand , cause english is not my first language).. So, i dont like the ''snobisme'' side of certain Mac user, and also if i'm ready to said ''yes Mac is cool, beautifull interfaces..good machine and good design'' Also its true for me, that's not the holy Grail... I prefer the best of the two world, PC+Mac, and stay open door for next futur release. Finally... For me a Mac its not a priority, but one day, when i have more $$... I understand how people here feel about the "Mac Elitism", but look at it from the flip side, for the most part Mac users have had to put up with the PC Fanboy fraternity rubbing their noses in the proverbial cesspit that is Performance, lack of software and comments such as 'macs don't/can't do games'.I've been a Mac user for the best part of 14 years and I've heard everything, I've been involved with and read many a Mac v PC flame war and to be honest its all pretty futile. I've grown up since then and have embraced both platforms, of course I'll always prefer the Mac, but thats because I prefer simplicity and getting my work done. On the other hand I love the PC because it is so damned customisable, easy to upgrade and I'm spoilt for choice when it comes to gaming. However, I do get defensive when individuals slate the Mac for no real apparent reason, yet I'm not blinded by Steve Jobs' "Reality Distortion Field", I know that Apple isn't perfect by any means. I guess what I'm saying is that not all Mac users are elitist and not all PC users are Fan boys.

If Big Blue were to have invested further into the PPC 970 Desktop line by increasing clock speeds as well as ramping up unit production, then I'm sure Apple would have stuck with IBM. The fact of the matter is that Intel has, from what we've been told, a great processor road map and has no problem with supplies, something that IBM cannot compete with. As for the PPC chip, well it is a great CPU, even my AMD64 3000+ has a tough time keeping up with my old G4 Powermac DP 1.25 for creation work. If Apple can make the G4 and G5's fly with optimised software, then I can't wait to see what they can do with Intel's power. Whilst I'm on the subject of software, I hope Microsoft finally gets with the programme and can make Vista (Longhorn) a true multi-tasking OS, something that I sorely miss with XP.

I use both platforms equally, although I prefer macs. Does this deem me as an "Elitist"?, certainly not. I agree with Unbeliever that a computer is a tool and should essentially be used as just that, it depends on whether you prefer Black & Decker or Bosch (excuse the metaphor) to get the job done. The circles I frequent in are not Elitist mac users, on the contrary, we are all open minded and see the pros and cons in any system. Starting a holy war over a platform is futile and generates unhealthy fundamentalist zealots who are narrow minded to others and their way of doing things.

Such things make the PC market seem very cheap and unprofessional.

Look at most of the software for Windows.

Many companies use custom skinning engines, and it's just awful. (example: http://www.teamatic.net/telech/system/real/realone.GIF)

Apple has rules about how a program should look and feel. I've hardly seen any OSX program that doesn't comply with those rules.

PCs have a lot of power, but problems like this really make them cheap pieces of sh*t.

Last time I entered an Apple shop, I felt like I smoked something forbidden.

I think the reality distortion force field does not emanate from a singular person but from the gadgetery itself - but I agree that it takes two of a kind:

1. A fanboy to, eh, be a fanboy and

2. A windoze user to get offended.

I remember being an elitist Win 3.0 airborne user looking down on the majority of poor DOS pedestrians. (I still can't take these Norton Commander clone evangelists for that reason)

Agreed that Elitist Mac users are a pain in the ass, but they have got a lot quieter recently on the mixed platform forums since the Intel announcement. Though, SpyMac and MacNN have their fair share still of course.
