Warning! Cpu Clock Is Over Running
I have an ASUS Nforce2 motherboard. But it would be dificult to walk you through the steps to correct this problem if we didn't have the same brand. My board uses the Pheonix/Award bios but its really just the Pheonix bios style and nothing like a true Award bios. As I said its hard to nail dowm whats going on. When you turn the system on what speed does the bios report you procesor is on the post screen. If it doesn't tell you its a AMD Athlon 2100XP but something else than the bios needs ajusting. If the post screen says its a 2100Xp but the bios is reporting that it is overclocking the chip than something is not right. There is a very slim chance you may have been dueped by a remarked CPU. That is, someone removed the real silkscreened info on the CPUs top side and resilkscreened in the wrong info to trick the customer. This was a major problem with Pentiums and Pentium2s years back and I haven't really heard or seen this as a major thing for AMD chips as of yet. Most likely your bios need finer adjusting. If you can give me more info as to made your mtherboard I could research it and find the best way to get your settings right. ![]()
I experienced this problem this morning when installing a new PSU...turns out I had nudged my heatsink. Remount your heatsink on the CPU...this should fix the problem.
heh I forgot i made this post. I fixed the problem and I do have that pheonix/award bios thing. The processor was recognized correctly and I made minor adjustments in the bios for the cpu until I narrowed it down to the source. What the problem ended up being was something called "Memory Frequency" it was set for "by SPD" dunno what SPD means so I changed it to "auto" and it fixed the problem I am surprised they don't make auto the default but after I changed it everything worked great (Y)
