AveShell 0.7 Public Beta coming this week

At long last, we are proud to announce that the first public beta of AveShell will be available this week.

AveShell is the result of a lot of hard work, research, testing, more research, and more testing. At times we thought that it would never get finished, or that it would be too resource-hoggy to be useful -- let alone getting those first few prototypes working at all. But with a lot of help from a lot of people (especially AndreasV and Judge), it's finally become a reality. So this release is dedicated to AveDesk's creator, AndreasV; and to SysStats' creator Judge -- without whom NONE of this would have been possible. We love you two guys, even if sometimes you feel unloved by everyone else.

Features:

- Integration with Litestep.

- Functions on Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, and All builds of "Longhorn" and (probably) Windows "Vista" (when DWM is not enabled).

- Backward compatibility with all AeroShell stuff (meaning that AveShell works with everything the project has done thus far).

This one is a *LOT* easier. Only thing to config is the short popup, then load the theme file directly the first time thru. Second time thru, load it using the Loader script. Edit as desired.

Something that I forgot to mention in the main post is a full-fledged explanation of what AveShell is and isn't (lack of sleep...you understand...). I probably should take care of that really quickly. So here...

AveShell is a replacement shell for Windows based on AveDesk, SysStats and Litestep. I call it a 'Cooperative Shell' because it takes useful features from all three frameworks and allows them to work together in providing an interface for your computer.

Because of this, no ONE framework is strained or stressed beyond its' capabilities, ensuring a degree of stability while keeping resource useage down to a minimum. Each component theme cooperates with the other component themes BY DESIGN. It can even run on TOP of Windows Explorer (although obviously it will cost resources and performance in so doing). When running in 'Standalone Mode', it lets the TRUE power of your machine take flight because it requires as little as a FIFTH of the memory and processing resources of Windows Explorer; and at the same time gives the user COMPLETE control over the interface. Design it HOW you want, with the FEATURES that you want (and none that you DON'T !), with the potential and capability that even Windows Explorer can't come CLOSE to matching.

It fully supports alpha-transparent .png and .bmp graphics on all surfaces (including animation), and is fully capable of additional frameworks being added to the mix (like Samurize) with minimal effort and a little understanding.

The "Parent Framework" (AveDesk/SysStats) supports INTERNAL SCRIPTING directly in the framework without the need for separate (and extra) files; you can directly code vbscript, xml, perl, python, ruby, and javascript and link that script to any element you require. Likewise, the parent framework is capable of controlling ALL functions of the Litestep component internally. Truly, the scope and power of this Cooperative Shell Replacement is far greater than anything else available. And it is user-oriented; meaning that it is relatively easy for a new user to make something new and unique for THEIR interface if they want to.

And it looks darn COOL as well.

A number of people are to be thanked for all this technology. Andreas Verhoeven (who has contributed directly to this project and whom it is named for...) for AveDesk; Paul Andrews (who has kindly and patiently put up with my incessant questioning concerning bits and methods) for SysStats; the entire Coding and Module-making community of LiteStep for the dedication (who probably never intended for LS to be used this way...); Calming, Sketching, Sei-Aidyn and the gang at the AeroShell Project (who had to deal with all manner of atrocities from yours truly...); the fine people at Samurize, namely NeM, AdamC, Uziq and more (who humored me when I wanted to research "the magic bullet" stuff beyond the realm of logic, along with coding some spiffy stuff to make it a reality); GSM for some cool scripts and for being a font of understanding; and to my buddy Darkside for giving me the space to commit all of this to the record books. I didn't do this alone, and I COULDN'T have done it alone. I'm simply the messenger and the collector, filling in the gaps when I was able.
