do you mean the menus of the programs, or the application name?

if it's the menus, there's nothing I can do about it. it's ObjectBar itself.

about iTunes - using Multi-Plugin should make OB recognize it's menu.

#304896

i meant the application name. I dont understand your instructions in how to add the names. eg: itunes doesnt appear as a applicationname when I click on it. Only "Finder"

thanks, localhost - you cleared up my question. cheers

In the first post, it now says "Another update:

Now it doesn't remove the WindowFX shadow and a I fixed a couple of bugs." For me though, There is still no shadow under objectbar. Is there something I must do?

YOU MUST DO THIS FIRST TO BE ABLE TO PLACE A SHADOW IN YOUR OB:

- Link the theme you are currently using (or any theme you like) in the desktop popup of your OBtheme (the popup that.. er.. pops up when you right-click anywhere on the desktop) :P

TO LINK A THEME:

1. Right-click on the desktop then choose change theme or switch theme (when you use crni's themes, this is included)

2. Choose from all the themes listed (ex. Milk theme -> Black)

3. Right-click Black -> Properties (this is just an example, since I like Milk)

4. On the properties, change the link that directs you to the Milk theme (or which theme you chose)

5. After you've done that, then is the time you can add the shadow (WindowFX only!)

TO ADD THE SHADOW YOU'VE BEEN LONGING FOR:

1. Right-click on the desktop

2. Choose the theme you just linked awhile ago.

3. Boom! There's the shadow all nice and tidy up there.

NOTES:

1. If, example, your favorite bar is Panther, I hope you already know by now that the theme you need to re-link is the Panther theme.

2. The next time you reboot (this technique doesn't require rebooting), there will still be no shadow showing up. So to add the shadow, right-click, choose the theme, then there it is.

Hope this helps anyone for this already helped me put a shadow in my own bar.

And oh, save the whales. :)

I have a weird bug when I try to edit a clock.

Am I the only one with this problem ?

#305488

Just use the standard format clock. I encountered that also. Some bogus name comes out when i use the edited clock.

#305489

Heinzoliger, kaloyster - the updated version fixed that. If you downloaded the mod more than 5 days ago, download it again.

Vague - go to the theme editor, and select your main bar. then go to the Advanced tab and uncheck "Block WindowFX from applying its shadow to this bar".

I discovered that feature only a few days ago, that's why the older mod removed the shadow at first place.

#305524

is it possible to let user decide which charecter can be used to replase the "Ctrl+" and "Shift+",that's easier for people who is not using the OBFONT, or for who is not using the Unicode as the default code (as me).

#305784

darn. anyway dl-ing it right about now.

#305815

great little mod localhost, thanks

edit: since you're the only non-japanese person ive seen with those smooth, creamy, os x fonts, would you be so kind as to reveal to us how it's done?

I just use OBFont in ObjectBar. Does it look different in your PC?

Turn on ClearType if it's not already on.

I hate the font rendering in Windows so much :(

I thought about starting a project for hooking the font rendering engine and replacing it with some good open source one . but it's so much work :/

wishbone - Maybe I'll make it changeable later.

btw, OBFont has nothing to do with unicode. Why don't you use it?

#306231

cleartype's on, and while it does anti-alias text a bit, it doesnt give it the smooth outer kerning that im looking for.

if you ever get around to remaking the engine, i'd do my best to help in any way i can.

#306257

try changing the FontSmoothingGamma value in HKEY_CURRENT_USERControl PanelDesktop to about 0x200 (512 decimal).

That makes the fonts a little bolder and you see less colors on the edges.

#306294

Looks good...but i think objectbar is just CRAP......this app needs a hell of a lot of fine tuning. Wasn't there supposed to be a new version coming out? What happened there....does anyone know?

That makes 2 of us. The only I reason I ever joined Aqua-Soft was to make my fonts look like the ones in OS X but I never got my wish in 6 years of being a member in this damn community. localhost you already know I adore your Multi-Plugin and how I would never even think of using iTunes without it. If you were to make an app that replaces the Windows font rendering engine with a better one, I would pay to use your app...I'm damn serious. If you are willing to work on this project, I am willing to donate some development money to you as well as pay for it once it is completed.

#306315

yup, im with sid. and thanks for the little tweak, i do notice a little difference.

#306316

well I tried doing it now, and found out it's harder than I thought.

I succeeded hooking a small part of the font rendering engine, but most of it is internal to Windows.

maybe the leaked Windows 2000 source code will help me somehow. I'll see later.

btw developers, are there any API functions for drawing text except TextOutA/W, DrawTextExA/W and DrawTextA/W? maybe I'm missing something.

Thanks ,localhost ,

it's better if it can be changed anyway.

my system is english though, I need to use other language in some of the programme like itune,word... so I need to set "language for non-Unicode programs" to a different one other than English.when I do this ,I find that all the MAC characters change to something else ,and the only way I can find is to mod the OBFONT itself , I changed the font to make those characters to #%*+,and I also changed my menu where there suppose to be a MAC character to those characters I mod (# % * +) now I get my menu looks great ,but when I use your mod version , when the menu tries to display "Shift +" or "Ctrl +" ,it crashes.

If you can change it to let user modify , I'll be glad.

****

by the way , have you guys ever tried WindowBlinds , I find that when you are using Windowblinds ,the font looks better than you have with Cleartype or a VS . don't know if it's just my illusion, but you can find out from my screenshot here

http://photos23.flickr.com/31762166_8733f8d7bb_o.jpg

I also using the [cleartype tuning] program from Microsoft .

#306490

I have the "language for non-Unicode programs" set to a different one too.

And modifying the font shouldn't cause the mod to crash. Does it still crash if you restore the original font?

WindowBlinds renders fonts using ClearType too. In some themes it applies shadows and such, but it's the same horrible windows fonts. Type1 fonts are really misaligned in Windows. Look at the menu at your screenshot for example, it looks like not all the letters begin in the same height (from the bottom).

There aren't many people who notice this, but I'm very annoyed from it.

#306697

there isnt a ob 2.0 they do have ob 1.99d beta

I havent installed the beta yet but they have fixed alot of things

#306711

Ugh! Everytime I change something it reverts to "Finder"!

#306746

localhost

can you try on your computer , chose Chinese as the default language in the "language for non-Unicode programs" ,and try to use OB to show some ctrl + or shift + , it crashes everytime here on my laptop.

I am using a windows pro sp2 and OB 1.65 635 /

though , I am switching back to your old modified version now.

it didn't change the ctrl + and shift +,but still I like it very much.

#306841

Diamond30 - I don't have Object Desktop so I can't try the beta.

BaselineAce - When did you download it? I've posted a fixed version about a week ago.

wishbone - I'll try that later.
