Hey Guys,
So it's been a long time since I've really done anything round here, so I got off my arse and did something. After seeing TiG4's 'Searchlight' application, I decided (just for laughs) to make my own Spotlight clone, this is what Getchoo developed from
Getchoo uses the Google Desktop Search framework (so it must be installed on your computer). It is working extremely fast on my computer (taking less than half a second to perform most searches), and is generally working very well; stable etc.
I need some testers (please PM/email me, dont reply in this thread), that have GDS installed, are very regularly on MSN/AIM and are running Windows XP (or any other windows version prior to Windows 98).
Completed Main Features:
- The search bar is shown/hidden by system tray icon
- Fast Searching
- Different icons for different kinds of file (full list of supported file types are shown in the preferences dialog)
- Alpha transparency
- Custom skins
- Automatically grabs your GDS code so works out the box, no set up needed
- Automatic Updating (requires net connection)
- Can be entirely keyboard controlled
What's expected to come before first public release:
- More spotlight-esque display of results
- Hot keys to open the search bar
Main interface:

Download a video of Getchoo in action (700kb zipped avi format)
A release should come out within the next week or so.
Cheers,
Al
