Tray Icon -> Shortcut

I am fed up with having 16x16 tray icons. Is it possible (via plugin or otherwise -- I was already trying to capture events with Spy++ (included in Visual Studio), but there's too many) to have ObjectBar display an icon (of variable size) that reacts the same as a right-click on a system tray icon would? This would work wonders with ObjectBar themes that have an icon present, but no functionality with that icon. Given the plugins, the iChat icon could work with Trillian or Miranda, or whatever the user uses. In the end, a more complete emulation is created.

For example, I have a completely seperate, 20x20 icon of a display, that I would like to be able to click (or right click) on, and get it to display the tray menu of a program (for example, UltraMon or ATi Tray Tools).

How much coding would be required for such a plugin, should I decide to go about making it? Surely it can't be much more complicated than capturing the messages as they are sent to the application via real clicks, and then emulating a menu?
