Aqua-Soft Forumswell at my friends school he gets an iBook 12 inch and its great except he cant install anything and he wants to know how he can bypass OS X permissions. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Bypass Os X Permissoins
Its his own iBook right? Well, when he first started OS X, it asks for the admin password. Just use that.
If you want to permanently bypass password protection (not recommended) click the hard drive icon and press cmd+I. In the permissions section, select your username. Its gonna take a while to apply the permissions. And its NOT recommended. I recommend keeping password protection on, and whenever it pops up, just enter the root password.
Wow, thats pretty Cool Taha. Obviously insecure, but most people wont do it.
For other peoples refrence, to do this in Linux:
"chmod 777 -r /" , but its not recommend obviously.

1. click the HD icon then cmd+I
2. Go to the Ownership and Permissions section, and click the unlock button, to make changes.
3. Then select yourself as the owner.
4. It is however, not recommended. Its best to keep root as the owner.
The other option: Or just remember the root password, and enter that whenever it asks for it. Learn to love the security in OS X 
Maybe he wasnt given the password when he got the iBook.

well, no, when you first turn it on, there is a wizard pretty much like the Mandrake one and it asks for the Root password and all..
Yup, wicked new badge. Sucks having no badge, eh? 
by the way, I just remembered you have a 56k connection. 1k+ posts on a 56k modem... damn...

Maybe, since its the schools iBooks, they already went through the wizard "for him".
their is a way to change the admin password without knowing the original. and its a feature on the OSX install CD's 
insert the original apple install CD, or DVD and they are now, and boot it. in one of the menu's (cant remember which one) their is an option to change passwords, or sumfin like that. simply go in, it askes which user u want to change the password for, and then askes for a new password. extremely insecure but its their.
its been while since ive needed to do this, so 4giv me if the instructions arent correct, but i know the options their.

no, in fact I tried that exact thing before. But since the permissions apply to the remote hard drive, to bypass the permissions, you need the Root password.
So, in short, you need the Admin password 
Remember, this is unix, if you forgot your root password, your pretty much stuck. 
Have you tried smashing the iBook against a wall? I hear that works.
well thats interesting, because when i last tried it it didnt ask for any passwords. oh well
Maybe you didnt have a password on it origionally.
well, it also depends what groups you are in: admin, system, guest, unknown etc..
thats always a possibility.. it was a fair while ago. nyway dosnt really matter, thanx 4 clearing that up.
