Icon Skinning

No I don't mean like objectdock that lets you save the icons with the skin, I mean:

Ever seen skin a dock on OSX? In addition to skinning the background it lets you set a single icon which gets put behind or in front of each icon without having to actually combine it with each icon. Some OSX users (like swizcore) have made some nice skins using this feature. A-dock on OSX also has this feature.

Mmm, I can hardly imagine what you are refering to. Hope someone helps me out w/ a pic...

like you jus have an defaul pic like a marble ... see how the icons are, right now in every dock ? well if you want them all skinned like a marble you need to find all the marbled icons.

Instead of that just use a default marble icon which can be set underneath each icon you currently have.

and poof a whole marble dock icon theme.

ahh.. I see. That would be wicked.

Some good examples of this idea are here:

http://swizcore.com/SS/macOSX.php

They are skin-a-dock skins. They have a default icon set to go behind each icon.

I've even seen some that have icons that go in front doing effects. All done without having to combine them with every icon known.

I'm sure going through iheartny you can see lots of other examples none of those actually combine icons with the one that goes behind each one.

I think its the end to our huge 128x128 icons though

not nessasarily, swizcore also seemed to set the margins to make the icons smaller, but it would mean the end of having to make 100 icons with the same thing behind them, hehe
