[Help] Installing Panther on iMac g3

I dont know why, But when I try to install Panther on my iMac G3 333MHz (I think, It's an early lime one with a tray load CD)

I put in my (burnt) OS X CD, open it, open Install, Open Install Mac OS X and it just has a screen with the jaguar (?) X on it, telling me to restart. I press restart. I get a message saying "Startup DIsk could not change the startup up disk to the install CD (-2)" Or somethign along those lines.

I have tried holding downC as a startup, I have zapped the PRAM and still not working. I am about to update the firmware though.

I think this mac meet the requirements. It had 160mb ram, g3, usb, I dont know about the hdd size though.

Try this; insert the CD, and go to your Startup Disk control panel. Set the Mac OS X Panther CD as the startup disc, and press restart from there.

Wish I could help you out on this one - the only experience I have had with older macs and OS X has always involved upgrading to 9.2.2 first. Now days as Classic is redundant this would be a waste of disk space.

I would assume that your disk isn't a 1:1 copy and is being rejected. Try making another copy or locate the original disk.

Be very very careful when you update your bios, a mate of mine just jumped though the options and wiped his motherboard out!!

Goodluck - it will be worth it, even on a G3 its still beautiful

plasmaflow, I have tried that many times. If I use The startup Disk control panel, It lets me select it, but when I reboot it doesn't work.

If I use The startup disk utility that the disk comes with, The Mac OS X Install Disk is disabled.

As for an original, This copy was burnt from a burnt copy, that was burnt from a burnt copy, etc. So I don't even know who owns the origignal, But a friend of mine's brother has the same burnt copy working on his iBook.

And also, I dont have a copy of OS 9.2.2, so I cant upgrade to that first.
