Creating A Ramdisk

I've been playing around with some programs that will create a ramdisk for you. They are pretty cool. I put my temporary internet folder on it and I saw a instant jump in speed. But I dont think its worth 60-100 dollers for "pretty cool". I was wondering about other peoples expierences with them and any names of freeware ones. I dont think they exist though.

P.S. - RAMDisk is a software driver that emulates as fully as possible the low-level functionality of a hard disk with system RAM. RAMDisk speeds up applications because RAM is much faster than mechanical hard disks for storing and retrieving data.

Ramdisknt and ramdiskxp. the "nt" one will work with XP.

you can create a ram disk w/o using any progs.

open hardware wizard. let windows scan for new hardware. once it finishes scaning, it's say that it cannot find any new hardware. say yes you have new hardware. on the next screen select ' install hardware that i manually select from a list (advanced)" ... next screen select show all devices. then choose microsoft from the list and click on ramdisk driver. then click on have disk. browse to ramdisk.inf in your c:\windows\inf directory. click next. when windows asks for a file browse to c:\windows\inf .

remember that the ram disk erases everything in it evertime you shutdown/restart so dont keep importatn stuff in it.

I dont see the ramdisk.inf in XP. With IE go to: internet properties, general tab. settings, and you will see a button marked "move folder" you got the rest.

the windows temp directory not the internet temp directory.

weird that you cant find your inf... maybe tweak-xp put it there for me.

i don't see the ramdisk thing, i set it to be 50 mb, and be drive z:

if i type that into the address bar, it takes me there, but i can't get there through ie when im browsing the files, or from my computer

there we go, i fixed it... stupid me, i didn't have it set to emulate a local hard drive <_<
