Icons Appear When Insert Disk

Isn't there an app that creates an icon on your desktop when you insert a CD? I remember someone posted it before, but I never downloaded it, and I guess the board only keeps threads from a month ago.

thanks

actually in the board search, there is an option for any date, it goes all the way back to November, when Aqua-Soft came back up. :P

#26179

TweakXP, search google

#26180

i can't see the above option to have an icon created on the desktop when a disc is inserted, im pretty sure i have the right app, Tweak-XP is what i have.

just to b sure could sum1 post few instructions as to where the option 4 this is. and even a URL 2 dl the app (just 2 b sure).

this may sound stupid but i really would like this feature.

#26283

yeah, i downloaded it and can't find the option either... :(

maybe this is the wrong program?... or wrong tweakxp?...

#26339

the app is costumizer Xp i guess....

anyway i remember that Cassiel was trying to do an special app for that ...

What Happened??

#26357

he left... :(:(

#26358

that app who made the cd ico apper on the dtop (not cassiel's) didnt dissapper when you took the cd out :( If I doent remember wrong!! so that app was a pain until I unninstalled it :D !!

#26378

Yeah it didn't remove the icon even though it said it would.

#26474

i didnt check tweak-it yet but, while reading this post it came to my head: Is there a way to make a keyboard shortcut to open / lose the cdrom tray? a - la - mac ?

just rambling here.

respect.

aniba!

Hi bhound89 and all!

The application is 'XP Customizer' not 'tweak XP'. Look for the application and if yu have it, check CD autorun section and you will find a checkbox with the explanation 'CD shortcut on the dektop when CD in the tray (like MacOS) or something else. Check this box and enjoy!

Hey I jus tried the latest version of the tweaknow suite (aka customizer XP) and when I eject the cd the icon removes from the desktop as it should! It also seems to use the generic cd icon instead of the tiny one that comes with the cd which in my case would be the OSX cd.

Only thing it needs now is to be able to force it to align where you want it.

hmm, need to find a program that can switch a registry value on insert/remove

then issue a refresh statement to the Desktop. (Or leave it to self refresh, it wont take much longer)

that way you can create a proper drive on the desktop and hide it when no CD is inserted.

An Extension of this

with added

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\ClassicStartMenu]

"{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954D}}"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel]

"{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954D}"=dword:00000001

All you would need to do is switch dword:00000001 to dword:00000000 and the drive would appear switch it back to1 and it disappears again.

You could create an event handler in the registry for insertmedia and removemedia that ran regedit with one of 2 .reg files one to enable one to disable the icon.

Not sure how you would then hand control back to the original event handler, perhaps with a || or simmilar?

But it would then be a proper drive and not a shortcut.

While having that function would be nice, $25 (for the std version) is kind of steep for something that just puts an icon on my desktop...the other stuff in the package I can already get for free elsewhere (Ram Idle, sysinfo, Virtual desktops)

Well Connor, if someone is willing to code something like that that would be nice.

If a coder is reading this perhaps they might want to try.

Oh and btw I wasn't trying to evaluate the price of the tweaknow suite only if the cd function worked or not.

I've got the code to hand,

It can detect insertion/removal of a CD and run in the background.

The next part of my feindish plan is writing the registry editing code - I've done it before but I'm a bit rusty.

and then refresh the desktop to show the icon. Icon style will either have to be default CD or do some media searching and write a reg key to correspond with the Media inserted.

Still no way to make it appear in a certain place (yet!)

Great, tell me when you've finished...I've a little idea...:inglewooh2:

Yes, the app you were refering to is horrible. It sucks ass. Yes the icon appears when the cd is inserted, but it doesnt disappear when the cd is ejected. Piece o sh## app. :6

#27695

I've written it, I'll do some more debugging on it later today.

hopefully get it to refresh the desktop automatically as well.

Then I'll make it available.

#27715

Great :D, I'm waiting for it... (Y)

#27716
