IconPackager 3 released

Stardock has released IconPackager 3. IconPackager is a program that enables users to change nearly all of their Windows icons in one swoop by applying "packages" of icons. While Windows has long had the ability to change selected icons via "themes", until IconPackager came along, there was no way to change the hundreds of icons that exist throughout Microsoft Windows. For example, IconPackager can change the icons that represent different file types (.JPG, .DOC, .PSD), icons for individual programs, control panelicons, Start menu icons, and much more.

There are hundreds of icon packages available freely for download on websites such as WinCustomize.com, deviantART.com, SkinBase.org, Customize.org, and elsewhere.

IconPackager 3 adds support for a host of icons found in Windows XP / Windows XP SP2 and for the new icons in the file dialog. In addition, IconPackager 3 has made it much easier to create icon packages with the new "package builder" feature which enables icon designers to see a sheet of all the common icons found on Windows in a single page and the ability to change those icons with a simple drag and drop.

IconPackager is a free download. An enhanced registered version is also available on its own or as part of Stardock's Object Desktop suite of desktop enhancement utilities. The enhanced version allows users to change any icon on Windows (including programs) right from its properties dialog. Version 3 also has better integration with IconDeveloper, a program that makes it easy to create new icons.

Neither have I had any problem with it. What I have heard is if you have the IP package called 'blue curve' installed, delete it and a lot of the problems go away.

I must say that IP 3 is looking nice. The drag and drop feature is working nicely and the package builder is a nice improvement over v2.

For those that are having problems, unistall and to a complete re-install.

Just to let some people know -- Icon packager caused me 2 huge problems that I never thought could be caused by this program. In fact, I reinstalled windows because of it as well as spent 4 hours on windows XP and Word tech support people.

Here's the problems iconpackager cause me

1) Screwed up my Word and Excel. Could not open any document from the desktop or folders. Has to use the file menu to open anything.

2)Shut down my Help and Support section on the start menu.

I was about to reinstall windows again, and then I thought, "let me just uninstall iconpackager and see what it does." Volia! Everything is now fixed. Cant believe it! The program is VERY buggy, including how it switches icons around for various filetypes when you decide to add a new type of file to change. Its a great idea, but on both my computers, just adding one extra file screws up almost all other filetype icons, and you have to re-create the package again in order to get it right. I thought this program was supposed to make things easier. LOL. Well maybe when they patch it, it will work properly.
