[help] when are notebooks line updated again?

i'm just curious, and i know that nobody knows for sure about it, but i'm trying to decide whether to buy a powerbook NOW, wait until next update, or wait for ibook update. i'm going to use it for school so i need it before augest 2X . judging from http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/, i estimated that the powerbooks will be updated around september or october if they are consistant, and ibooks Should be updated anytime soon.

opinions? what do you think is going to be implemented in the new notebooks? intel pentium m? mobility radeon x800 in powerbook lines? 160 upgradeable HD? significantly lower price?

right now, i'm going to try to get the powerbook 12 inch with 100 gb of space as early as possible. i have the money (barely) and i'm trying to figure out if it's a good enjoyable move for the summer or if i'm going to regret it when the new powerbook lines jumped to super new hights in the next update.

We don't know about this one steelfist.

This whole "We're moving to Intel" is messing everything up.

IMO if you need a notebook and you like it "as-is it now" (+ you have money ^^) -> buy it. Intelimac is a dark horse for a moment... And i think it takes 3-4 years before top Macs will ba powered by Intel.

And new update can't be very significant...

I am/was (think I made up my mind to get one) going through the same thing, so I called apple sales and started asking some questions about it… they told me that the new processors will be coming out next summer. The nice thing about it is that in the keynote Steve Jobs was talking about it being a “phasing out” over the next 2 to 3 years!

I am thinking that with the PowerBook being as good as it is now it will be just fine for me. It will also take awhile for the app developers to get everything up to date with the new processors. Granted they have “Rosetta” that translates PowerPC to Intel.

I’m not going to hold out for a year or more considering that I need to buy Adobe CS2, Macromedia Suite, etc. in the next month… plus my laptop is getting out of date and I swore that I wouldn’t buy another Window machine… and now I’m ready for things to work the way I want them to! Yes guys, I am making the switch! ;)

you might look at used 12" ibooks on ebay they are super cheap right now.

im hoping they update the ppc line of the pbooks soon. there were big rumors of a mac mini/ibook update for the next couple weeks but i guess thinksecret squashed that.

i've been in the market for a powerbook for a long time now, but with problems like the trackpad going haywire and still seeing if prices will get better, i've put it on hold.

I don’t know if anyone else thinks the way I do, but the way I look at this is that by the time the next update comes out you will already be hearing about yet another update… if you keep waiting for the next update you will never get it… and I say this because the computer industry doesn’t like to sit around without the “next big thing” in the works (Microsoft excluded, they never seem to come out with anything worth while :P )
