[Help] I need some advice on a web design school issue.

I need some advice! I am starting my majors in Multimedia and Web design this fall and the school wants me to “lease” a laptop for $500 per semester and then I can buy the laptop when I graduate for $200, but the kicker is they remove all the software when I buy it (Adobe CS, Macromedia Studio MX, etc.). I have a laptop that’s about the same if not better than the one they want me to have as far as specs are concerned.

What I am getting at is I can buy everything (office 2003, Adobe CS, Macromedia Studio MX, Quark, 3d Studio Max, and any others I may need) for less than what it would cost to lease the laptop for 3 years and I would own all that software (to me seems better than owning, by then, a out of date laptop)

I guess looking at the pros and cons I would lay it out like this…

Pros:

Leasing: I may get a new laptop at the beginning of every year. If it breaks or dies I will get a new one faster than I could go out and buy a new one. I would get to aquafy another laptop

Software: I would only have one laptop to deal with so no data transfer. I would own the best software in the world. Now is my only chance to get those programs for dirt cheap.

Cons:

Leasing: I would have to juggle the data on 2 laptops. The $3000 laptop I bought last year would hardly get any use. I may have to turn it in at the end of every year and then have to set it back up at the beginning of every year.

Software: I would have to pay for them up front and out of pocket (it sounds bad, but all my schooling is out of pocket anyway). I may need to upgrade at some point with Adobe having bought out Macromedia.

Any thoughts on my predicament?

As always, thanks in advance! ;)

P.S. I hope this is the correct place to post this! :slant:

I'm a software-oriented guy...if you get the licenses and proof and everything, you can even reload it on future computers. The decision comes down to you...sit down and think about it. Maybe flesh out your pros and cons list.

Best of luck!

heres what to do. Get yourself one of those back-up-the-contents-of-your-hd apps and back everything

up while it still has the apps on it. Then they taks ur apps away, and you restore your backup 8-)
