[Help] Wallpaper taskbar shadow in photoshop

Could someone give me a short tutorial on how to add a taskbar shadow to your wallpapers in photoshop? Not to good at using photoshop but Im sure its not that hard.

  1. open the wallpaper in photoshop
  2. resize it to your screen resolution
  3. press the prtscn key on your keyboard
  4. paste that in a new layer
  5. add a shadow with the gradient tool (from black to transparant)
  6. hide the layer with your screenshot
  7. save

Actually if he is using Object bar it won't provide a shadow for him. If however you are using Avedesk you can make a none clickable shortcut that is a gradient black to transparent PNG. This will avoid the process of creating a new desktop pic with a shadow each time.

If your set on using Photoshop though you will need to create a layer above your desktop pic and either run a gradient of black to transparent from the top to a little bit past were the task bar would be. Once you've got it right I'd save that as a template somewhere so that you can swap the desktop for another in the future. once you've done that flatten the image and resave it under another name like my desktop pic_shadow.jpg or something.

If you get stuck let me know your monitor size (ei. Pixel width and height) I can make a transparent PS file witha gradient ready to go for ya.

Thanks for the help. You guys are the best but I just cant get it right. If somebody has a ready template for 1280*1024 that would be great. My monitor size is 19.

Here is a .PSD file that has a shadow and a transparent background. Just drag it onto your desktop picture in Photoshop flatten and save it as a diffeent file name so that you still have your original intact.

I'd suggest you use Avedesk to add shadow to the taskbar, so you don't need to edit every single wallpapers. Just create a new shortcut desklet with the shadow PNG as image. ;)

As explained by duyvan82 the AveDesk taskbar shadow method is as follows.

1. go to your AveDesk Control panel by rigt clicking on any active desklet.

2. got to Add>Desklet choose Shortcut then press Add

3. a "?" will appear on your desktop; right click it and bring up your configuration panel on this new desklet.

4. set your image to the to the attached PNG file after you've downloaded it to somewhere on your computer.

5. adjust image if needed to fit the width of your screen.

6. set the image to either "Always on the bottom" or "icon"

7. click and drag the desklet under the task bar, if you set the view correctly it will slide behind the taskbar. Remember to click Apply in the configure dialogue box to set your changes. Tip: you may want to temporarily hide the taskbar as your placing the desklet to get it were you want it.

8. After you've placed it make sure it does not have a label under the label tab then lock it's position either by checking the box in the configuration dialogue or right click and select "lock position".

9. Finally turn auto hide on your taskbar off if you hid it and save you're theme settings. Done
